Disappearing socks

Once a year I buy a bunch of socks, most in different grades of grey and some
white socks for exercising. Mids into the year at least one third of the socks disappeared; what happened to them is a mystery. Because it's such a hassle
to pair them up when a third is gone I like to come up with a solution. I could by all socks in the same shade(boring but easy solution) or I give every pair a number, could have a tailor embroid the numbers for me (eccentric and I know instantly witch one is missing). Mannn...live is hard...

Well, I don't know where socks go when they disappear, but I think I may have figured out why they disappear. It is because they are trapped in a life of sin and depravity, devoid of morals. Yes, each time socks are washed and sorted, they end up with a new temporary mate. Some live a life of total depravity, unsorted and unmated, thrown together in a drawer until they are matched and mated by their master. Then, after they have been worn, they are thrown into a second den of depravity, the hamper.

Well, it's obvious that given such a life, they burn out and escape. So much for open marriages and mate swapping. How could this work for people, it won't even work with socks. Luckily, there is hope, and an alternative to this life of depravity

Are you suggesting there is a "caste system" for socks? Funny story many years ago when I was co-habitating with a man I was thinking about marrying(gasps from the audience). I was doing the laundry and damn if I didn't lose a sock or two each load and whn I'd come back from the wash house with a grin on my face he'd say:"You lost more socks didin't you?" At which point I'd say:"Yep." Well it got me out of laundry detail...any way fast forward about ten years, he left for parts unknown and I was having a conversation with a guy who used to repair washing machines (no he wasn't with Maytag) and he said all the lost socks get stuck in the agitator. So there you have it- the mystery of the "Where Do The Lost Socks Go Saga."

There is a sock god that lives in your clothes dryer.

Periodic sacrifices of socks, to appease it, are demanded.

I truly believe a black hole lies within the washer...

...somewhere in the universe, there are intelligent beings on another planet pondering the mysterious appearance of alien footwear.

Those beings must also have shoe closet black holes that periodically injest a shoe and subsequently deposit the shoe in our planet...usually on a pavement!

Yes a caste system exists in every society in some form or fashion - why would socks be exempt. I like how you think.

This has come up in a thread years ago (before the big dump) A member posed a theory about how different MB owners viewed missing socks

SL drivers viewed as Karma
C and E class drivers attributed it to the law of averages
D drivers just viewed it as ***** happens

So this looks like a very broad problem that needs an adequate solution soon, just the impact on the environment must be huge. If you ask me this is the silent cause of global warming that no politician or activist wants to talk about.

I fear that in the after-life, I will be presented with several big piles of stuff that used to be mine.
One of these piles will be lost socks.

While repairing my washer I found a few pairs in the agitator. I found more behind the dryer though.
