Mercedes 5 cylinder gasoline engine?

Did Mercedes ever build a 5 banger gas motor? My dad is going to look at a 1960's model and the owner told him it had one. I have never heard of it and can't seem to see any on google. Anyone know?

Not that I know of. I have been doing a lot of research recently trying to unload my '65 220 se cab carcass and the 190s of the era were 4 cyl, 280s and 300s were 6 cyl.

Only the 3.5 litre version was V8, this is the rear view of a '69 300 SE with a 'Flachkuehler'. Must be one of the first coming this way.
After that they were designated as 280 SE (3.5) 'Flachkuehler'.

300 SE Cabriolets with V8, if at all must be very rare.

Maybe that was his way of saying that one of the cylinders lost compression.

It certainly looks nice on the pic.

Those Coupes and convertibles are timeless in style.

The 300 six cylinder, was top end from 'Adenauer' until the first 600 rolled out of the factory, in the mid sixties.
