Musharraf steps down

Perzev Musharraf resigned his position as commander of the Pakistani armed forces.

Among those calling for his resignation was Commander in Chief Bush, who stated that a civilian leader should not also be head of a country's military.

Hmmmmm.

And he will now step in as the prime candidate for the Prime Minister, he just took off his uniform, heart and soul as well as control of army is all with him. Old Pakistan story, sadly the general public there suffers immensely.

Hmmmmm.
He has to be the worst speaker in Presidential history. I'm sure he meant a military leader should not also be the head of the country, but jeez.

Thank goodness. And thank the first Dubyuh for the tradition of military subservience to civilian rule.

I am thinking that it really matters not whether he wears a uniform or a suit.

Perhaps real reform will follow. I hope so.

If you go by Pakistan's violent history, usually assassinations follow and then the impending chaos.

Maybe they'll discover democracy. It looks like the lawyers and supreme court justices have.

Seriously doubt it going by their past history. Their educated class has always vied for democracy but somehow they are minuscule in comparison to the domineering tribes and feudal system prevailing there.

They discovered it fine and were fine until a minority won in the sixties. Even still, Musharraf ousted an elected leader.

Is there anything more telling about a leader than when he/they believe that the people they are governing cannot be trusted?

Even elected leaders believe they are smarter than the electorate. It goes double for dictators.
