My father's side of the family tree had a get together earlier this year - around 200 people showed up. Everyone got along fabulously, and they plan on doing it again next year. Sometimes, family is like different kinds of cake. There's the birthday/sheetcake - you can eat that once or twice a year, and still like it. There's the layer cake, made by a local bakery, and you can have it every other weekend with a decent cup of coffee, and like it. There is the artisan torte, handcrafted with German precision, each chocolate shaving sliced with teutonic precision - this stuff is a delight to the palate - if you're lucky, you get this once every few years, or you marry it.

Then, there's the fruitcake - something whose existance you'll acknowledge, and maybe even admit you've tried it once, but never yearn for another bite.
