My daughter just called, the guy came to change the tire within one hour of the phone call. All at no charge, except for a small tip.

Thanks Dan
About a year ago I used it for the first and only time. I ran out of diesel on the freeway. It took about 45 minutes but someone came out and brought me about a gallon of diesel and sent me on my way. I offered to pay the guy for the fuel and time but he would not accept any payment. The car is a seriously ugly, beat up, 1981 300SD.

here in FL on the major highway in central FL ( I-4) they have these trucks running up and down to assist broken down motorists.. aka The Road Rangers.. they have everything.. Winches, tow lines, jump boxes, 5 gallon jerry cans of diesel and gasoline, light bar, a sign warning motorists, flood lights, flashers.. etc etc.. they help a lot with stranded tourists too.

everyone should get the w210 wheel chocks from the dealership.. 20$ goes a long way.. plus they are heavy duty

last week I put them behind my rears while changing my wheel/tires to the 8 holes... I forgot I put them there and when I backed away I was like.. why am I not moving.. and put a little more pedal down.. then I went up and over them

boy was I surprised, they were still folded in the up position and had dug into the concrete.. if they can survive that they are good in my book

That is absoloutely correct, if you need a tow, it will only be to the Mercedes Dealer if you use the service for it.

If you are lucky, the tech driving the tow truck can perform small minor adjustments or repairs to get you going, and indeed, if you specifically ask, and the dealer is open and one is in stock, you CAN ask MB roadside specifically to bring a battery, and they will install it for you.

I did this once years ago, and a couple of months ago new member on the ForumShop "Camelot Shadow" had it done on her 500SEC euro also.

All the service calls like this go on your car's VMI record.

I was recently in So Cal and had a lockout problem. I called MB Roadside, and the service vehicle from Mercedes Benz of Encino came out, and took care of it, but it was not free. I had to pay $65, but it was a reduced price and I did not mind paying for it.

It is a great service, for the lifetime of the car, and I think many or most Mercedes Benz owners don't realize it exists.

I've called when I had a problem with my SL, and my wife has called twice about her 300TD. All three times the people were polite and helpful, and the time my wife needed help they came within an hour. I dropped my AAA long ago.

I wish they'd give you the option of a tow somewhere else. Guess it's the only way they make money and recoup the expense of this thing... but still, if I get stranded, say, with a bad water pump... all I'd need to do is get it home and do it myself but instead I get nicked who knows how much for dealership labor.

Still, it's free assistance for when you need it. Can't argue too much.

Thumbs up Battery service

Back in July or August, the C230's battery died on a Saturday night -- fortunately right in front of my apartment. I called on Sunday morning, about 6:30 (originally I was going to get a jump from AAA, then drive to a parts store for a battery -- but thought better of it) and got someone right away. The driver came out about 8:00 am, removed the old battery, swilled out the compartment with some baking soda and water I mixed up to get rid of some corrosion, then popped in the new one. He also resynchronized my keys, windows, and moonroof.

Cost was only the price of the battery, and on a Sunday morning, too. So the dealer doesn't need to be open.

I'd use it. I know people who have and they have all had a postive experiance. Their are quite a few MB dealers around here so the response time would probably be very short.

And if you got stuck in Hell's Half Acre, or Loose Gravel, Arkansas, they would still help you. They would pay a contract Tow Service to send out a truck.

I know, I used it in that situation a couple of times. The nearest Mercedes Benz dealer was about 60 or 70 miles away when I did.

When were you in Arkansas, Jim? You never told me . . .

AAA should be the SECOND choice.

Wait a minute. Think again.

When you are in the Mercedes Benz, and need a flat tire changed, a dead battery, out of gas, ANYWHERE...even if you ALREADY have the AAA service, use MB Roadside first.

Because, if you use THREE AAA calls in a membership year, you get a nasty letter from them warning you, that the fourth one, they will come out, but you will pay the tow truck driver full boat for the call.

After THAT, they say they will CANCEL you. (I learned this the hard way. They will hit EVERYONE, even if you were a member for 37 consecutive years.)

Use AAA for your VW, or other car. NOT the Mercedes Benz, unless you have to.

I don't know my cars never break I havn't had to use either in 6 years.

I bet if I drive MB's for 30 years I will never call roadside.
