DVD region lock/unlock

I'm really ticked.
This DVD player will not play my collection of UK and russian region DVD'd.

So...I spend a little time wondering why...after all, the DVD's I took to Russia from the UK and USA played in the machine I bought in Volgograd for the family I was staying with.

So, here I am now back in USA and my Russian and UK DVD's will not load.

Looking on the www I find many sites that want to charge you anything from $4.99 to upwards of $20.00 for 'who knows if it will work' unlock codes.

Then looking through a forum, I find this link......
http://www.dvddemystifiziert.de/codefree_en/codefree.html

Trouble is, the way to unlock my Pioneer DV260 takes a PDA and some imagination....the code is HUGE.

Anyone done this before, or should I just buy an all region DVD player?

Any suggestions.?

Pulling it off on a standalone player is going to be probably near impossible depending on the unit. Its easy to do on a PC, you can use software that spoofs the region and will play anything, or buy a "region free" dvd rom drive on ebay or something for cheap, and it will play anything/never ask about regions. Those are your primary options.

Non-region free DVD-rom drives on a computer can be changed 5 times before the hardware will lock it out, not sure if flashing the drive will reset that, I've never tried. Another option is to have 2 dvd drives in your pc and set one to the region for the other discs, and one to the USA region, and use the appropriate drive depending on which disc you want to watch. DVD drives are SO cheap now that its a super simple way to do it.

Yeah...I found a lot of forum discussions about the limited amount of times you can set the DVD to region free..

I think our friend IWROCK has the right idea.

here's some interesting observations...

Here's another link.

jWIN brand isn't very hard to do, either.

Some are not hackable.

Here's another link:

This website worked for ours to play German DVDs.

If you have a DVD burner on your computer, use DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter. They are both free and will remove the copy protection and region code.
