Blizzard!
Well, maybe not a blizzard by technical definition, but we had about 10 to 12" last night and it blew so there are some fairly decent drifts.
Our house has a long roofline facing south that has 12 large skylights facing south for passive solar gain. When we got up the snow had them covered solid. My wife likes that look calling it a snow cave. But the sun has melted it all enough that the snow is beginning to slide off the skylights and the house is beginning to light up with the sun streaming in. In the winter the sun at midday comes all the way to the North side of the house and lights it all up more than it does in the summer. Passive heat and passive lighting. It helps drive away the winter blues. Each time I hear a large chunk of ice and snow break loose from our skylights I just grin. Tom W

It is right at 32 f here now. Sun shining....beautiful. I will have to go plow snow this afternoon from my building's parking lot, the sidewalks, my driveway and the driveway in back to my son's house.
I am waiting a while first. Tom W

I'm glad you got it and it missed Iowa.
I've scooped enough already for this month. But, it sure is a beautiful site for sure. |

We got 11" last night. The day before I was putting my car in the garage for some work on it. So I had to spend 25 mins brushing off ALLLL the snow (so as little as possible melts onto the floor) before I went in the garage. Oh well. First real snowfall of the year for us.
![]() ![]() I just wish I'd put my car in last night instead of this morning. ![]()

Done.
The old scout did it again without any drama. Each time I use it I wonder how many more trips it has in it. It started up a couple of weeks ago for the first snow after not being started for maybe as much as 8 months! Right up too. As soon as the gas hit the carb. Tom W

Ahh ... The Scout, how I loved that car ... if I ever get to scan those old slides I will post a pic...some day.
Ya know, I never had a soft top on mine, so what I did, I moved the hardtop by myself ... up and down .... by crawling under it and get off or on the bed with the top on my back ... just like a turtle ... that's how much I loved the car ... ![]()

Mine has the pickup cap. Much better to keep clear in winter weather so you can see when you back up.
Opening the windows give enough breeze when the major air leaks don't do enough. Tom W

Yeh, I should have mentioned, lifting & balancing the hardtop this way was only possible because I had the heavy rear window removed, I mostly drove without it ... I remember heavy rains though, I could have used windshield wipers inside, because of all the spray water .... got to be a sports man when you drive a Scout ...

The Looney Tunes here in The Swamp seem to think 37 as a low and 55 as a high (which is what we're seeing for a day or two here) are *cold*. I tell 'em, "Hey, they have these new things in all the stores now. They're called coats. Look into it."
