x2. They're bad-ass mofos, those red devils. My bro has a huge one, big ol' lump on his forehead. I think if he got angry enough, he could break the aquarium glass...
![]() Sorry about your pleco getting killed, that's crappy. I've kept all kinds of cichlids over the years, and yeah you are correct Don, when they're spawning, it's go-time for the rest of their tankmates. Mine killed the other fish in the tank, including some nice firemouth cichlids. I had an oscar for close to 14 years or so. I was pretty sad when he died, more than I though I ever could be over a fish. He grew up with me from age 16, when I bought him at 1" long, to into my 30s, when he was his full size, about 12". I also had a pleco that shared the tank with him and the pleco lived almost as long. The tank started off with 8 little oscars, all 1", and then later on various other fish, but the only two that survived long term were Oscar and the Pleco. Pleco was big as well, about 8" long or so. I miss the tank...

I brought the cichlids to my local fish store and he agreed to take them. I gave them to him since I got them for free.

You could have brought home a piranha - that would have solved the problem too...
