VW stalling...

What would cause the Jetta in my sig (2L 4 cylinder) to stall at idle when its warm, and run rough when you give it some throttle off idle? When its warm and idling in drive and you give it the gas it will kind of want to stall, run rough than catch. 2k rpm and up its smooth as silk to red line. At idle it will sometimes bounce around a bit, but usualy its dead smooth.

CE light is on, but its just for a miss fire, no help their. But I'll try again for the codes maybe I will get lucky.

The ignition system is pretty much new, I did the plugs they are the correct type and gap. It also has a new bosch cap, rotor, and rebuilt distributer. The wires were done in 04 and are in good shape, the coil was done at some point after that.

It doesn't smell like its running rich, and the fuel mileage seems about right.

Could it be that warm up sensor? Autozoo wants $16 for it, I'm tempted to just try it. If I can fix this it will be running 100%.

My 93 Cabriolet did it too, but it had to run for 15-20 minutes first, then the idle would change and it ran like crap off idle. I gave up, sold the damn thing. VW's from that era are so poorly/cheaply built that I don't plan to ever buy another.

Check for intake leak - common on VWs of that vintage. And like Kuan said, vacuum leaks too. There's a VW board somewhere out there, I just can't remember the name...

I was going for the same answer as well...specifically, vacuum leak occurring near the intake system.

Hey did you have that pancake engine? The vacuum advance was taken from the exhaust so if you had even a teeny leak it'd throw the whole system off?

Yeah its a POS for sure. I read the code and I'm like gee didn't know that thanks!

I was talking to my uncle at a party last night, he still has his beater 97 Cab that he towed behind his RV. He says it does the same thing, and his VW mechanic can't figure it out.

I just need to nurse it to April.
