2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupes/112_0802_2009_chevrolet_corvette_zr1_first_look

Expect 620-plus horses and around 600 pound feet.

OMG......sports car world will not be the same again. This one is a looker as well.

Buy em while you can. I truly believe we will never see cars with the horsepower that they are producing today. Too many strikes against continuing such excess. I love a fast car but the engines they are putting out today far exceed the skills of 99% of the drivers.

Agreed..........and that what gives a bad name to high powered cars which is truly unfortunate.

Two things....

We have been going through the same thing in the motorcycling world, only worse. There are quite a few machines out there that are capable of sub 3 sec. 0-60 times and top speeds of nearly 200mph. All of this for less than $10,000. I believe England has caught on and now has 100hp limits. People said this will come to an end here in the US but it hasn't yet.

Also, I don't think the Corvette will ever die. It is America's only true sportscar with the history and heritage to back it up. The Corvette may end as we know it (fiberglass body, V8) but will never die in name.

If you leave the traction control on my mom could drive one safely....and she is 83.

Course she would have trouble getting in and out.

But I would too.

It could mutate:

Chevy CORVette + Bel AIR = CORVAIR

So, it is not like it hasn't happened before...............

I do not care for the clear panel on the hood, the read brake duct or the lip on the front spoiler. Other than those few items, make mine black and send her on over.

Does anyone have $80K to give me?

Yes, but not for a cheesy Chebby.......

Clear panel for the hood is tantamount to the fake hood scoops of the '60s........DOUBLE-CHEESY!

Reality is that not too many grandmas buy AMG's and Z06 Corvettes. The Jeff Gordon and Michael Schumaker wannabes who wrap these things around poles and trees, probably wonder in that last split second,,,, "How in the hell did that happen so fast ?"

I think you will still be a little short at $80k.

I like the way it looks but I'm not the type that needs the performance and I'm way too cheap to pay for the insurance that it would take to own it.

If that's true, then at least they seem to have gotten it right with the most recent generations. Vettes of the 50s through the 80s really do nothing for me. The Vettes of the 90s seem OK. The Vettes of the 2000s are totally hot. IMHO.
