The Driver, by Alexander Roy

Received an interesting book for Christmas, The Driver: My Dangerous Pursuit of Speed and Truth in the Outlaw Racing World

The author drove from New York to Los Angeles in 31 hours and 4 minutes, stopping only six times. In an old M5? Hmm....

Paging through the book, this guy looks hardcore. Complete with fake police uniforms, laser diffusers, jammers, scanners, CB's, cameras, babes, wow... lotsa' time on his hands.

My God! He'd get life in prison if he was stopped in Virginia with all of that stuff/ You can't even have a radar detector here.

Sounds stressful to me ... 30 some hours, there is no sleep involved.

Yeah he runs in the Gumball 3000 every year, usualy wins. He is full of himself and a total ***. But he does know how to make time.

I forget what he drove this year, last year it was Bentley GT, and for two or three before that an M5. Always done up as police cars. He also seems to hire a driver.

The police thing is their Gumball theme, Team Polizei, they started it others copied it.

This is a good example of what they do, fun stuff:

I don't care if he's a dick or not, doesn't matter.

Interesting to read about "the race" behind the scenes. Much of it comes down to planning, logistics and some bs'ing, not just sick-fast cars.

Like most of anything else, I guess one needs a strategy, planning and good timing ... and then GO!! Haha, I know, that would be too easy...

Not a job for me, the driving part ... I like a nice stretch of open road, but to score a record ... That's for real men ...

You got your Christmas literature ... by the time you're done with the book, you're a step closer toward spring ...

Oh! I know how that can go. When it grabs you, you won't let go ...
The last book I finished in record time (2 days) was Mario Puzo's "Omerta".
He moves very quickly in this one. Only 360 some pages. East Coast, West Coast, then somewhere in the middle ... and bam!
