Drove the six series to oakrige Oregon, cop followed me for miles

I drove my 1983 633 csi to oakridge this afternoon with a freind to see if there was any intresting property for sale cheap. There was nothing there, however I noticed on my way to the rest stop before leaving town a state trooper pulled out and started following me. I lost his at the rest stop, Left the reststop to find a oakride cop following me. So, what i have nothing to hide, drove three miles under the speed limit and he just stayed right beside me until I left town. So weird.

Angry The speed trap state: Oregon

Oregon is a beautiful state, but I despise driving in it.

The speed limits have no relation to traffic conditions, safety, or a reasonalble and prudent speed.

It is about 55 mph almost everywhere, and is strictly enforced, often by "slicktops" and undercover cruisers such as white Camaros and the like.

I think the entire state is one big speed trap, and approach it as such when driving there now, if going through it cannot be avoided.

Not to mention the gas stations. Apparently they feel us consumers are unable to figure out how a gas pump works.

It is ALL "full service" at gas stations in that benighted state.

It is especially worrisome when some dribble chin, pimply faced teenage gas station attendant approaches your Mercedes diesel with no clue that some cars actually are made to RUN on diesel fuel.

Nah, it's an employment issue for them. More jobs.

It's a good idea to watch the Harvard scholar who's fueling your car. It's a lamo job -- no service involved, just pumping gas.

I guess I was lucky. We drove from San Francisco to Seattle and other than the gas station attendant not understanding PREMIUM gas on the northbound trip we drove about 70mph without seeing one highway patrol the entire strip of 5 freeway.

Downtown Portland bites though as there's only one dang gas station in what appeared to be a 3 mile radius.

Guess I was lucky then...

On a recent trip through the state I manage two new records. One was double the speed limit, 110 in a 55, and the other was triple! Though to be honest, the triple was just 60 in a 20 mph area (National park). Both were barren areas with nothing around, not saying it's ever ok to speed, but these really were areas with little risk.

I-5 only 55mph in urban areas. The rest is 65mph.
I don't often see troopers, Most do 70+

No sales tax, No self serve gas. I don't think
either will ever change.

It's kinda fun to mess with the gas attendants, and jump out and start pumping your own gas. Had one guy come running over, all pissy!
"Oh, yeah. Forgot about Oregon. Sorry."

If I recall, NJ is the only state in the country were it is illegal to pump your own gas.

Read it somewhere recently.

What about NY and PA.. they take make the gas stations take out the little ridge clip that holds the pump on. you have to stand there like a moron and hold the pump lever while the car fills. Try that on a 46 gallon Suburban tank!

I cannot understand why they do that... are we the consumer so stupid that we would turn the pump on and forget to stick the nozzle into the the tank?

Sheesh!

Sorry to hijack the thread...

To get back on subject...

Young guy in BMW (doesn't matter what year) cruising slowly = house theif or drug dealer to most cops.

I was once followed by a local cop in Monmouth CO NJ for 8 or 9 miles in the 528e. Me in a 55 zone doing 53 with the cop six inches off my back bumper. Suddenly the lights go on and I am pulled over. The cop (a cute female) comes over and says "What are you doing going under the speed limit?" I said with you stuck to my bumper? What did you want me to do, speed?" She laughed. Then I said, "If I had known YOU were the cop following me I would have definitely done something wrong!"

She flirted with me for a few more minutes then we parted ways...
