Great story. Thanks for putting that up there. What a nice dad she has!

Thumbs down They are still ugly.

Makes no difference what anyone says, the Pacer (known unaffectionately in its day as the "plodder") still looks like a duck's head.

Where's aklim? I'm waiting for him to declare he'd hit it...

Great story. I look forward to starting a family with my wife and letting the kids "help" in the garage!

Yeah, it does still look pretty pathetic, Jim, but theres something about an old car that's been restored to "like new" condition that makes it more appealing than it was to begin with.

You can say all you want about the original design but the executioin of the resto is just flawless! Better than new.

People love to make fun of AMC cars, but they never say anything about how they are well made and reliable.

The drivetrain in that Pacer can hold it's own against any Mercedes diesel, with none of the pain in the rear repairs. It's a very overbuilt vehicle.

The 258 six, and Torqueflight transmission can outlive any 240D/300D stinker.

The v8 AMC motors are just as good as the sixes, btw.

I don't think it's so much a story about a Pacer as it is a girl and her first car her father bought and built for her. Yeah, if it was a 300D everyone would be going bonkers.

Remember the title of the thread A Nice Story, a Pretty Young Girl, and a Nice Restoration

I'll bet her father just LIVES to see that big smile on his daughter's face. I know a little something about THAT!

The story is pretty awesome, dad could have just bought her a Civic/Corolla, but it wouldn't have been the same.

A friend of mine did the same thing for his 16 year old daughter, he bought a real beat up '87 BMW 325e and they both restored it. She had the same look in her eyes when she even talked about the car. She was very proud of her dad, to say the least.

This is a great story!

This story ranks up with some that I read in Hemming's Classic Car. Two seperate girls and their dads restored and modified Model T roadsters. In both cases the girls did a lot of the work alongside their dads and had those same smiles.

I really like the fact that they updated the Pacer and made it into a better car then when it was new. I like the idea of creating a 4.5l AMC six! I also like that they kept a carb and points ignition system!

I am hoping to do the same with MY daughter now that she is 14.5. We are looking for some old thing to resurrect. Right now she is in love with Jeep CJ5's.

I have always loved cars from AMC. I always thought that the design of the Pacer was daring and cool. In fact, you can see bits of pacer in many of today's cars! I also have fallen in love withthe AMC six cylinder. I have a 232 in my CJ and it is an amazingly strong engine.
