Point of MBCA?

So who is a MBCA member around here? I got a membership, but it just seems you join to get a card and a magazine. Oh and be able to buy at their shop. I thought there would be local events and more activites and such to make the membership worthwhile.

When you join you are also supposed to be automatically joined to your local chapter. Contact Renee Herbert at the home office and she can tell you who your local guys are...

Her email is:

Renee@mbca.org

That was a key part of my reason not to renew membership with MBCA. The section activities here were limited to restaurant events that had very little to do with the cars. I do respect the work done by the local section volunteers that try to organize events, but their cup o' tea wasn't my mug o' beer.

I've been an MBCA member for the past year. Our local meeting was just yesterday.

It's a lot of fun. Half the member are dieselheads, some have amazing cars (Saw a 6.3 yesterday - and that was his winter car)

I don't make it to many events - somehow they always land on a bad day.

I'd been a 2-3 year MBCA member about 10 years ago in the San Francisco North Bay section (which evidently no longer exists).

But at the time, the National was involved in some horrible bloody war over its budget and a leadership power struggle, and there was a lot of anger and bitterness.

Added to that was the fact many of the local events were top heavy with people who were pretty old and were concerned a LOT more with eating food than being involved with the cars themselves.

And the glossy magazine seemed like little more than a puff piece for the Company, with no criticism of the car or the company permitted, EVER, no exceptions.

So I finally lost interest and non-renewed.

In October I decided to give it another try after about 7 years away. Not sure about what I'll find this time. (Sacramento area, this time)

I joined for the first year, then just signed up for a three year. The Star is pretty good (not as good as Mercedes Enthusiast), the forum isn't nearly as good as the other MB sites. Why join? Because I like the marque and I like supporting those who support the marque.

We can only hope it's someplace after the "Master the use of There, Their, They're" goals you've set for yourself.
