For a moment put the other shoe on, a company releases software written on platforms and codes the general public never see and usually it is on a very advanced machine with developer technologies. It all works and they release a beta..rev1..in essence and this also now transcends to a time line. Over that time line internal technologies advance but the general homeowner or small bus owner( non-enterprise ) technology doesn't. They still have older machines and non updated or incompatible OS and then to boot they call a "customer service rep" and expect a magic wand and scoff to speak to Sanji even though Sanji is trained and at least is well intended and patient.

I recall watching a 60 minutes episode on the GeekSquad and how it came into existing as a vital mobile tech support service. The reality with the pressures of lower pricing across retail America has created a movement where eventually something suffers. Guess what the first to go is ?

We call whatever the manufacturer offers up as service and we get India....Now here these people(csr's) not Indians... well they live in a box...they get told answer objection 4 with rebuttal 4a..etc... what does a consumer really expect for their purchase? How does that csr, whether in Wisconsin or India know about your O/S or your configurations and service packs? And on top of this... it is free or included in the price in some cases...

A while back I had a little wrinkle emotionally with my outlook on airline travel. I have since recanted my position on that issue... Perhaps in retrospect it really is from what side of the desk you sit on...Perhaps we expect a bit too much for just too little as a whole...across the board..
Mostly agree, but the least they could do is give a little bitty disclaimer. My case might very well be my problem. It is all just so frustrating for the average user.

Pete, I did say 9 out of 10 times..it may be the software...who knows

I must admit your scenario smells odd to me as if it was the machine it wouldn't take the program info to begin with...hmm..maybe bloated as suggested

Either way I do feel your frustration because it is just that a PITA...
