Not sure about others but for me it was a matter of convenience. I am not a drinker so the bar scene is out. I liked the fact that I did not have to waste a great deal of time and/or money on women who were not even in the running. Mrs. Mash and my self emailed for a few weeks, then spoke on the phone for a few more weeks and by the time we meet, we were already friends. Neither of us dated anyone else after we meet and we have not been apart since. Were it not for the internet we would have never met. She lived in Paris TX and I was in South Dallas.

I've met a couple girls over the internet, actually. I was out in CT two weeks ago and visited with one that I have been emailing back and forth for the past 3 months. It was a Catholic dating site, so most people here wouldn't really be interested. When I first met her, I was actually surprised because she looked better in person and we clicked better than I ever would have expected. Now, she's flying out to IN in two weeks for my birthday then I'm flying out mid-March for our spring break.

I actually asked a similar question here in Open Discussion several months ago when I was starting the internet thing.

Be prepared to have a backup plan for the 'first date'.

I met this, as she put it, "attractive, slim, owns her home" gal a few yrs ago online. When it came to the first date I discovered the home just barely had the wheels removed. When she opened the door I was shocked but had hopes that the slim, attractive gal was hidding behind her. No such luck.
Thinking fast, I picked a place to eat in a town about 30 miles away saying that I always thought it was good.
That seemed like the longest date of my life. She had the "Phyllis Dillard" laugh that brought everyones attention to our table.
The real scarey part was just as we got back in the car she says " I'd really like something hard to suck on". Fortunately I picked up a couple of lolly pops from the bowl at the cash register. I handed her one and said "here you go". Drove her back to her 'home' and never called, emailed again.

We met June 1st, 2001. This June will be 7 years, and rings to be exchanged in the very near future.

If I was going to meet an unkown on from a dating site, I would give myself an out. If we were supposed to meet at 5, I would tell my friend to call me at 5:10. That way if its bad I can abort really quickly with an excuse that an emergancy just came up at work, or someone died.
