Does anyone here listen to National Public Radio's "Car Talk"…and if you do, what's the car they talk about least? Mercedes Benz of course!

I often listen to them if I am in my car on the weekend.

I have never heard mercedes benz mentioned by them.

Don't most NPR listener's drive a Prius or Volvo?

Over the years I have heard questions about old Mercedes, but for the most part, and except for the folks here, the Mercedes owner demographic isn't much into radio diagnostics.

Years ago, a woman that I worked with got on the show. Her question was abou whether her husband should get a Jaguar XJ6 convertible. Tom and Ray said that he should get the 12 cylinder, in baby blue.

You're missing the point…they don't mention Benz, not because there aren't any owners who listen to the show, but because our cars don't have the problems that so many other makes have!

They mostly talk about Japanese cars.

We could all conspire to come up with a difficult MB problem and spend a Saturday morning all calling in with the same issue.

I’d bet it has a lot more to do with the majority of Mercedes owners not being in a position where they feel the need to call a radio show seeking advise on where/how to fix their cars. And very little to do with the reliability of MB’s in relation to any other cars.

You don’t hear too many Ferrari or Porsche owners calling in either. Both of those require quite a bit of attention/maintenance as compared to Japanese or most any other autos.

And yes – I have heard “The Tappet Brothers” mention MBs numerous times. The caller is almost always a college (or just out) student with an older hand-me-down MB.

I have always wanted to call in and say I have a 23 year old Benz and I have no problems with it.

I think they talk about domestics more often; PT Cruisers are a big hit on the show.

Wouldn't that be nice. I like the show but it's true, they seem to have a phobia about Bimmers and Benzes. Virtually never hear them mentioned.

Don't believe I've ever heard mention of any diesel car. They're down on diesel trucks.

The used to be pretty good, when people called with real questions and they gave real answers. Many times, the questions are from old shows that they repeat every few years. I wonder if they are even on the air for real during the time slot. By the aswers they give in the syndicated newspaper column they have, they are pretty arrogant and very liberal. The love to lambast peple for not being "green" in the paper.

Nowadays, they spend more time laughing and joking about people's names plus the stupid puzzler than anything else. Most of the time they sound like a couple of hs kids that smoked too much grass.

why bother dreaming up a difficult question? i listen to npr all the time and have caught their show a few times (not purposely) and from what i've heard you couldn't get a straight answer from them for even a simple question.

Since most people don't work on their own cars anymore, they filled the timeslot with mostly bs and laughter.

I have indeed heard references to M-B diesels,although NOT in regards to any real mechanical fault,just the Driver's unfamiliarity with their crochets.

Invariably their advice was to keep them and learn to live with their peculiarities.
