Professionalism-ness?

Ok.. here is the skinny

I worked today at work, in the grocery dept. I was scheduled until 11:30.. I did all of my work

( fill special items, low velocity( yellow tag.. not a lot.. just a pallet.. I was asked to, not something normal I do), fill private label items like, bread, milk, sodas, milk, water, etc. plus its split between two of us.)

It was 11:40 and the customer service manager asked...

Do you want to stay and help block or go home.

It was 10 minutes past my scheduled time to leave, I needed to go home and work on my outline(which I am doing), and print it. So I of course said, " No, I'd like to get home so I can get somethings done."

she replies. "ok, next weeks hours(on the schedule) will reflect your decision."

now she said this for and in front of at least 8 other associate. This is not the first time she has been "unprofessional".

would you all agree? Plus today was my day off and I came in to help the store. I always seem to agree to work on my day off.

I'm going to call our companies ANON snitch line because she is not a fair manager and really .. sucks at her job.

Congratulations and welcome to the world of intolerable bosses, where everything you say or do is WRONG. If you want advancement and fairness, you'll have to get out from under her or quit.

Nothing is more liberating than letting someone know what you think of them right before they quit. There are other jobs out there, confront her on how unproffesional she is, tactfully at first, and see what happens.

well if you want to do something to her car and not vandalize it you can put a fish in her rim and after some weeks its will really smell. you could also duct tape a washer that is tied to a string and tape it to the drive shaft of her car that will drive her nuts,

Dropping the dime on her with the company ombudsman wont change her -- he behavior isn't actionable. Her behavior is just like you say, unprofessional.

Start looking for a better job. When you interview DO NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT YOUR FORMER SUPERVISOR!

In the interview I don't know whether your boss was Attila or Jesus, but I hear you whining. I don't need an employee bad enough to hire a complainer. Not saying you are wrong or that she isn't a lousy boss, just that nobody wants to learn about your stinky undies.

You really have to take a step back and take a deep breath. Realize that this is a crappy part-time job and it is not a big deal. You have to take the attitude that they need you (which they may or may not, doesn't matter), that if you are a good worker you can get a job anywhere. Take the high road.

I had a crappy job where the boss would always ask you to work extra. We would fill in our own schedule. We had a minimum amount we had to work, but we would always get asked to work more. I would tell my boss that that was it, I filled out the schedule and I had plans for the other time. Because I was a good worker and reliable, I could get away with it. Your problem may be a bit different where you are not getting enough hours. If you are a good and reliable worker, you should be able to negotiate more hours, But...

What you need to do get a back-up plan. Look for a second job, but go looking for the job while you still have the first job. You are then in a position of strength. You can tell your prospective employer that you have a job but are not happy with the amount of hours and you are considering a new job. It's like trying to find a girlfriend, you look a lot more attractive when you already have one. When you quit, if you do, do it right, give notice, take the high road.

You have to not take anything personally, I know that is hard, but you have to react in a detached, business like manner. That way you will not react emotionally and make poor judgments. Have a clear plan in your mind before any encounters with the boss.

Look at all the experiences as a type of training for later in life when it really matters with real jobs

I don't know about that, just remember, she has lots of experience dealing with employee's and could probably destroy you in an argument quite quickly. Have a clear plan of your goals before any encounters.

That sucks, she does sound like a d-bag, maybe on a little power trip. But there's not a whole lot you can do about it. Well, outside of saying adios. It sounds like it was a loaded question. If she wanted you to stay later she should have just come out and asked you to instead of playing games.

I'd imagine that not too many of your coworkers have any respect for her either since they see what's going on. It'll be good experience learning to cope with incompetent bosses. Unless you just get fed up enough that you want to move on. And even then, it's generally best to leave on good terms rather than MF'ing her up in down.

There's nothing you can do really. The treatment and pay and perks are a lot better the higher you move up the food chain, but you will always have a boss you have to deal with.

It's all in how you conduct yourself, for that is the only thing you really have control over.

And it is true that everyone will always have a boss to answer to. Consider the fates of Moussalini, Richard Nixon... or Ghandi, Nelson Mandella. Ok, Ghandi is not a good example as he was assassinated, but consider their legacy, and how they are remembered for their actions

I'm not quitting publix... I have started the process of transfering back to grocery.(I left originally because one of the guys was harassing me.. ya know.. calling me jew, messing with my car.. just ya know..)... and I went to bakery then back to Customer Service since the position for customer service staff(behind the front desk) was opening and I was next in line.(and they skipped over me for someone that was not trained as well or had a good record)

Publix pays me pretty well, its 4 miles from my house, I'm getting health benefits(I need those), I get a retail bonus every quarter(usually like 300-400$( depending on sales). they gave me stock the last two years, and heh.. I am the highest paid person up front since I work in all departments and train just about every new cashier or bagger. I don't out up with anyones crap and will do the crappiest of crap jobs.. Just to get it done

If she screws me on my evaluation for acting professional towards her unprofessionalism.. I'm going above disctrict manager, directly to corporate and filing a harrasment suite.

No one ****s with TheDon

I have just the thing to mess with her head

http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/electronic/8c52/

10$ but it will be worth it. (I need to scope out where to put it for maximum annoyance to her and not all of the other managers... because they like me... she's the only idiot)
