I'm pretty sure I'll get something, but not sure how much and don't really care. It will impact me little in the grand scheme of things. I'll put it in my Vanguard account, where it will do pretty much nothing for the economy.

While I agree with the portion of the stimulus package that focuses on businesses, this consumer tax rebate portion is a laugher. We're "solving" a problem by giving out money to the same people that CAUSED the problem in the first place, and expecting them to fix it? I realize there is no sensible solution to the approaching recession, but this seems absurd. Giving someone $1,000 isn't going to fix or change anything ... they'll spend it and then be right back where they started. It's like giving a homeless man a cheese sandwhich one Tuesday afternoon and expecting to find him managing a very successful upstart company by the weekend. He's going to wolf that sucker down, take a nice nap, and then wake up later that evening and say "oh crap, what am I going to do for dinner?"

Don't get me wrong, my greedy little hands love getting extra money, but it makes me a little queasy to see the rest of the country get all giddy over such a slapdash economic effort.

Of course they are. Who do you think wrote the bill? Bush? Who do you think tacked on some pork onto the bill before presenting it for signature? Bush again?

By "pork" do you mean disabled veterans? Bush wanted to cut them out.

You ever seen a bill make it thru congress without them tacking something unrelated onto it?

I was not refering to any item specifically. So I would say the answer to your question is "No". However, my point is that congress has always tacked all sorts of stuff onto a bill to make it a hostage situation. Do you think that the disabled vets are the only thing else besides the refund on the bill?

No I don't.
I think the so called Stimulus Plan is a huge mistake.
Calling all the additions to the bill as "pork" was not accurate. Bush did not include disabled Vets or retirees in his original bill sent to congress. Even now, they get $300 not $600.

If the additions were good enough to stand on their own, why tack them onto a hostage situation?

Yes! However, I won't get a penny back. That sounds freakin right! The ones paying the most taxes don't get anything.

Because Bush didn't include disabled Vets or retirees in his original bill.
That's why.

My point is that this is the same principle as them tacking something else that is pork. If it was so good, why not write another bill? Would I be for the Vets? Absolutely. Do I like that what I consider a good idea like that is being tacked on to another bill? Absolutely not.
