Castro finally quits

Where are you, Ernesto? I wonder what practical difference this will make? I just read the headline. Haven't heard who is replacing him. Is it Raul? Anybody know?

When will the cigars be availble in the US again (legally)? Of course, by then, we may have outlawed smoking of any kind in all places . . .

No cigar

Don't light up those Romeo Y Julietas yet, folks. Looks like that benighted regime is going to stumble on, and Fidel still is keeping his job in Parliament.

Raul is going to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic, things will be pretty much the same.

He is going aside without a bang but a whimper, it seems. Pass the denim colostomy bag, the one with the red star on it.

Lo siento mucho, Ernesto.

Not yet.

Dee8go- you got some nerve posting something like this. I was already packing the boat and reassembling the Buena Vista Social Club and it seems Castro has just moved aside.....

Ernesto Lives.....

He never would have survived as a politician in the us. He definately would have been assasinated. Three and a half hour speeches!

You're right. He could have become a Baptist preacher, though. . . . .

I think this guy has it right: http://www.thewashingtonnote.com/archives/002870.php

He says we should use Fidel's resignation as an excuse to end our embargo against Cuba. Seems like a good idea, even if Raul is just more of the same.

I love Castro's speeches, they give me energy and I don't even understand Spanish.

I heard that there were supposedly yachts about 25 miles out past the Golden Gate Bridge, and if you go out to them, you can buy contraband Cuban cigars, but they cost a LOT.

When I was in Peru, you could just go in a Department store and buy what you wanted. I got a nice pack of Montecristos in Lima and simply brought them back.

I have a friend who was in the Cuban Military for 10 years in the 1970's.
he was with Raoul in the hills around Havana.

He told me his two brothers will carry on the regime like their brother.
One of the brothers apparently was a cold killer, he told me he had seem him shoot several of his soldiers for 'misconduct' and other persons.

I asked him yesterday if he would like to go back to Cuba and he said only if the country became a democracy or a pardon was issued to all exile Cubans, but even then probably only if the Castro family was dead.

He can't stand the cold weather here...it was 47f yesterday and he had on 4 sweaters a padded jacket and insulated coveralls !

he told me the goverment assigned him a house in the center of Havana and he paid $15.00 a month and after 5 years the government sent him title to the 3 bedroom house.

He fled Cuba in 1980 by boat and first landed on Key West.
I have known him for 12 years and I consider him one of my closest friends.

I have a 1982 Alfa Spider he said he would love to take back and drive in Havana...he said those Alfa's are the 'cool' car to own over there.

He confirmed there are dozens of old 50's and 60's American iron all over the island....pity we can't go an import them back here .

On one documentary I watched about the Havana 'Buena Vista Social Club' I spied a Porsche 356 parked at the kerb.

So what do you do after you retire from running the revolution after 49 years?

Yep.

Also, I'll bet Cuba doesn't want to engage in anything substantive with the USA until after the general election -- they will want to be clear on whom they are dealing with.

Customs gal in Florida looked right at mine and pretended not to see them.

Cuban cigars are good but they have the forbidden fruit appeal in the US, I read an article that is Cubano's are allowed in the US the quality will drop due to the demand increase.

That's the reason I bought the damned things -- forbidden fruit! I don't like cigars but it was fun giving them to people who appreciate them.

Personally, I couldn't tell whether cigar quality went up or down. Smoke a pile of raked leaves.
