How much money has EXXON paid into remediation of the Valdez disaster?

I have a friend that is from the spill area and he retired at an early age thanks to the huge cash infusion from Exxon. He said most of the people blew the money and now have their hands out for for crying whoa is me while others invested the windfall.

not enough? i read your justification of why companies should be allowed to walk away from the chaos they wreak because of stock holder and other bottom line considerations of how others depend on the profit, etc. what i would like to know is if you would allow this same parsimonious attitude if you neighbor decided to paint cars, or mold plastic next door and "accidently" polluted your immediate environment?would you take the same approach and not hold him fully accountable becasue his family "depends" on his income?

I think you extended my comments beyond reason. I doubt that you can find a single instance where I ever said any company should "walk away". One of the few features of our modern government with which I agree is the environmental regulations. Further, I think every regulation should apply equally to everybody. No exceptions at all.
