A side note, Lowe's has some cheap CFL lightbulbs right now, they are going for $.99 each, they are the good 6500K daylight ones. I am not sure if all the stores will have them though. I know we sold at least 10 cases of them yesterday at my store
Thanks, for the tips!

Thats a wicked steal of a deal. We have Prego laminate in our small living room and its tough as nails. We bought at 2 extra boxes but we'll probably never use them. We were a little worried how it would turn out but its been great.

Thanks all for the encouragement. I'm glad to hear it's holding up well for everybody....although Yal, I did not buy the impregnated kind.

I started installing it last night - I'm so sloooow.....I think I only got 5-6 rows put down in 3 hours. Although much of that was spent shuffling furniture, pulling up baseboard and ripping some luan off the subfloor.

Looks nice though - it cuts nice (80 tooth blade though) and the scrap piece I submerged 3 days ago in water hasn't swelled yet.

To check for swelling when wet, I put multiple pieces in water. Some joined and some not. I did see some swelling at the seams and found that after a few days, it was difficult to join two pieces together. But I didn't think the swelling was enough to destroy a floor.

LOL I totally didn't catch that!

The front door of our townhouse leads straight into the living room and we've had snow, salt, mud, boots and a 2 year old give that part of the floor hell for 3 years and its still as new as the day we got it installed. I don't know what exactly that stuff is made out off but its tough. Had two subcontractors from the store come by and it took them about 6 hours to do 20 by 20 feet including molding and leveling, and they were pros.

You literally, just described my house - complete with the 2 year old.

The luan that I pulled up was for the vinyl floor that was originally inside the door - I was a bit hesitant to put the laminate floor there - but it would have looked funny leaving it. I'm glad to hear it's holding up for you. And had I encountered the original flooring contractor last night, I would have stapled him to the floor....it was horrific pulling that stuff off. The staple pattern was literally at 2.5" on center, each direction.....somebody was quite staple happy and it wasn't fun to pull that crap off (and hammer the staples back in).

Alrighty - you came thru on the other thread with some photos.....so I must be a man of integrity and heed your flooring request.

Behold, the mighty african paduak. For the most part, it went pretty well- took me 3 evenings after work to do about 300sf myself. Pulled up all the baseboard and I've still gotta repaint the nail holes. And again - for 0.75sf, I'm pretty freaking happy with it.

The only problem - is now our humble living room needs a complete makeover (furniture, etc) as the carpet is no longer the weakest link. Yes, that's a homemade rug - my mother-in-law made it because we're amish.

I also made some concrete test pieces - just to play around with tinting....but I'm not really happy with the results so far. Keep in mind, these are crudely formed and completely unfinished....I just wanted to see color results. The rectangular piece is face up - after stripping the forms.....and the other ones haven't finished curing yet (untroweled or floated as well).

At this point - I'm thinking black and NOT casting any stones into the surface. I'll be pouring a solid concrete coffee table this weekend, hopefully.

The floor looks great. I think that rust colored slab would look awesome with a dark wax hand-rub finish.
