Apple breaks the law

went to get an iPhone today this thing is rad and now I can post on forums anytime!

But I tried to pay with cash but they told me I could only pay with a card what gives? Isn't it stated on every bill of our currency that this note is legal tender for ALL debts ??? I love the product thank Allah that the AT&T store let me pay cash but does this smell of credit fraud to anyone else?

It was just shocking never had cash turned down for anything I mean cash is cash right?

Nothing illegal about it. They are not breaking the law at all. You cant get a building permit with cash, you cant pay for you license or plate with cash (in most states). The Coinage Act states that all US currency is legal tender, but makes no provisions or guidelines that businesses must accept it as payment.
Ive lived in 3 towns/cities with their own local currency. Chapel Hill/Carrboro NC for one of the largest amounts, has their own currency for use in local stores.

Right. Although the notes are "legal tender", when you choose to buy something you essentially are independently contracting with the seller: "I'll give you goods if you give me whatever I want in exchange", usually money.

They can demand whatever they like because you are under no obligation to buy from them in the first place. They can say "Go deal with somebody else".

Michigan gladly accepts cash for license/registration/plates. In fact, until recently, they didn't accept credit cards at all. Only debit, checks, and cash.

On a side note: Apple Corp/Steve Jobs is evil and breaks every law they can. They are like big brother to their customers and have shady cover-ups of security flaws in their system and hardware problems with their products. They delete threads on their support site if someone complains or asks about a hardware issue with their product!!! Amazing.

Charge it and write it off as a business expense. Just hide it in their under office expenses. Or gifts...

I'm always ready to fight it out over the problems with Mac's....I'll agree they are fine for many people. But to those that like *freedom* in computing, they are quite limiting/closed/expensive.

Mac's do have security flaws, they are simply not exploited. With such a puny amount of the pc market running mac's....what incentive is there for a hacker to write a virus or spyware/adware etc to run on or exploit a mac? The impact of spreading such an app would be ultra-small compared to trying to spread it on the windows platform.

If Mac's were 90% of the market (I shudder at the thought) then they'd be hacked and exploited all the time.

OS X Leopard was released too early and had several important security flaws that apple had to scramble to patch and fix....so the problem occurs on Macs too.

I don't care what type of PC a person chooses to own, I just prefer the windows/linux environment over mac.

To each his own I guess.

I dont really buy that whole... there are too few mac users for people to create viruses for them...

If Mac users and the commercials are constantly bragging about how its hard to get a virus on their Mac, there would be a ton of virus programmers trying to prove them wrong.

And they have, there are some viruses/trojans/worms that are capable of infecting OS X. But not nearly as many as there are for Windows. OSX is simply a more idiot proof OS.

Best way to prevent viruses? Don't surf for porn

No, i am not a mac user and nor will I ever be. Their designs are a bit too form over function for me.. too trendy, plus I like to game on my PC.

Yes and no. Cash means I have to keep a register and have someone count it at night, have a safe for money, make deposits, etc, etc. Some apartment complexes are getting irritated at having their rent paid in cash. That means at the first of the month, give or take a few days, they have to count it, store it, deposit it when it gets to a certain amount, etc, etc. We won't even talk about theft risk when you have employees.

With credit or debit, I don't have to worry so much. I can deposit it when I want, don't have to worry about employee theft, easier to get the amount correct, etc, etc.
