Nuclear Parts Sent To Taiwan In Error
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/03/25/AR2008032501309_2.html?sid=ST2008032600827
Henry and Air Force Secretary Michael W. Wynne said the Taiwanese did not appear to tamper with the items, which contain 1960s-era technology, and that the nose cones would not have been dangerous on their own because they work only with U.S. missile technology. Of greater concern to senior U.S. officials is that classified nuclear-related items left U.S. control, reached the hands of a foreign military and went without notice for so long. Thats one huge error if I may say so.

The media is obviously blowing this out of proportion. Just because it's part of a nuclear missile doesn't mean it's radioactive,,, which I guarantee the nose cone is not.

A lot of people would argue that the Taiwanese military is a solid extension of the US military, and serves as a permanece in balance of power systems in South-East Asia.

I am surprised the Taiwanese military did not send these things back as soon as they arrived. 45 year old missile parts are worthless. We have not used the Minuteman in decades. Even N Korea and Red China would have no use for them. They certaintly were not the helo parts the Taiwanese ordered. I guess crates look like crates. I agree that the media is blowing this all out of proportion. I can't wait until Congress gets it's chance to weigh in

I'm sure the Chinese had their hands on these items decades before the Taiwan ever did. This is a total tempest in a teapot. Now if MIRV warheads had been shipped by accident, there would be a reason to get up in arms.

I thought that was part of their quality control...

The only real problem I can see in this screw-up is...
Were these parts part of a program where they were suppose to be "destroyed" or dismantled to the point of in-operatability? I.E.: Steamrolled flat or incinerated? If so...then you've got "...some 'splainin' to do..." Anyways...doesn't ANYONE check the Bill-of-lading before it gets out the gates anymore? BTW, how old is this story...REALLY?

Nope... I just ordered four cans of Diesel Purge from a web site and got a box full of VW suspension parts! Must be $500 worth of parts in the box!

It's an old warehouse inventory auditing trick . . . label boxes as expensive parts and fill them with random junk . . .

The parts would be useful for somebody who had nukes at a primitive stage of development. Can anybody think of any countries on the planet who might fit that description?
Whomever lost track of those things should be court-martialed. |

Error? Probably not. Just a little reminder to the savage communist animals who controls this planet and can dish out a spanking at any minute. Just like the nuke the MSM said was lost by the USAF. Riiiight. We're really good at sabre rattling. 50 years of the cold war and we still got it. Sweet.

Maybe, buy what kind of parts are we talking about? Those nose cones are basically barometric pressure sensors and possibly an antiquated guidance system. I personally own Saturn V rocket parts but I'm no closer to space travel if I didn't have them. The key here is that everything from the nose cone down is the complicated and hard to procure stuff.

Let's say you're using a modified V-2 missile -- the Scud and it's descendants -- you needn't design a ballistic missile from the ground-up. There are more than a handful of Scuds in various countries, nuclear and pre-nuclear, around the world. Let's say you want a proven effective and reliable trigger. Just because it ain't the latest design doesn't mean it would be a useful improvement. |
