I like the idea of putting a bigger harddrive and more ram.. It has a 2.80 ghz processor that runs pretty good.

I'd like to pop the key board off and clean it out.

About a new internal harddrive, I do not have the windows CD that came with the laptop since it didn't come with one... lame.. But I can make the back up discs.


I'd like to do that but with at least 120 gig harddrive.. I wonder if the laptop software in bios and all that can handle it.

You don't need anything except Acronis True Image. It will transfer everything from your existing hard drive to the new one - boot sectors and all. Then just move the new drive to the laptop.

This Dell I'm on right now is a Celeron 2.0 and it works pretty good with 640M of RAM but it doesn't play games too well. A gig of ram and a faster processor would certainly be more satisfactory.

si.. I remember most of that from my high school class I took on the stuff... Well not really a class but I got credit for hanging out with the network admin in his office for an hour a day helping him tell teachers that they were stupid and usual admin stuff...

Acronis True Image

how does this work?

It has an interface that allows you to transfer an exact image of your current HD onto another one. It's pretty easy. I got a trial copy and used it once.

I see.. copy to a new HD.. How do you connect the new harddrive ( a new internal harddrive)

Like I posted in #15 get yourself a cheapo $10 laptop hard drive enclosure and put your new HD in there, hook it up by USB then format it and copy your OS onto it.

Acronis true image is a cross between ghost and a complete BU program.

Using a GUI, not as user friendly as I'd like but u get used to it, define the folder and/or drives to backup, the location to store the BU, when to run it and a couple of other misc parms.

You can then restore anything from the backup, individual files, to the entire Drive.

Thats the "Image" part, backup your OS drive, create a boot CD (Acronis will from a menu item), and restore the drive from the image. To the same drive or a different drive.
