Forearm tendonitis

Anybody experience tendonitis in the wrist? I've had it mild for years and it went into hyperdrive in my right arm a couple months ago. My doctor recommended ice and large (800 mg.) doses of Ibuprofen 3 times a day. He gave me several bubble packs of that size tablet, and I know the stuff can't be too cheap.

It improved a lot almost immediately though it's begun to recur, though not as bad.

I'm going to ask him on my next visit if it's a good idea to use that much Ib. for a long period. I'm down to one a day because of concerns on that score.

Dr.Weil.com says steroid injections into the sheath can help though he says he'd avoid it if possible. Also says DMSO might help, I used that in the past, results inconclusive, will try it again.

Try alternating hot and cold water a few times a day.

You've got to keep up those high doses continuously even if the wrist is not hurting. It reduces the inflammation and allows the tendons to heal. I've had success with steroid injections but also with continuous high doses of Ibuprofen for about 10-15 days. No need to buy the horse sized pills, just buy the large bottles of the 200mg's at the drugstore

On your own, you shouldn't go more than 800mg 3 times. However, under a doctor's care you can go to 3.2grams. If you are worried about cost, take a few more 200mg tablets.

It will take a while before it is gone. Just because it stops hurting doesn't mean it is fine. Gotta take it for way more than a couple of pain free days.

Fine. But in the meantime, don't lessen the dose otherwise the inflammation will be worse.

I don't get it so badly that I have to take heavy drugs. Keeping my wrist immobilinzed with a brace for a few days is sufficient. Happens with left and right. What's annoying is that I can't push with my wrists bent even when it doesn't hurt. I can do push-ups while holding dumbells but not on open palms. I've learned what actions to avoid so it doesn't flare up. I can still replace a cylinder head or transmission by myself if I plan my moves :)

That's sounding bit like carpal tunnel which is usually avoided by doing simple exercises to increase blood flow to the forearm. One of the easiest is an exercise that I do a few times a day that only take a few seconds is to put your open hand on a table and move your arm forward to stretch the tendons in you wrist.

Good luck CMAC, the combination of the IB and the wrist strap will alleviate the symptoms quickly...don't sweat it and listen to your doctor.

Could I do a semi hi-jack here ? Woke up with the worse stiff neck ever Friday morning, and luckily got in to see my Doc. Gave me an injection of some painkiller, and put me on Oxycodone and Vallium for about a week. Relief was almost immediate, but am in kind of a stupor most of the time. Hope he has some more info from the x-rays they took on friday. Never felt pain like that.

Then STFU, take the meds and enjoy your legal buzz. :D:D

To paraphrase Mom: Do you know how many people are going without their buzz or getting busted for having a buzz. Now eat your meds and I don't want to hear another squeak out of you, young man or I'll tan your hide.

Best let them figure it out. Your inflammation and pain has to go down or you will feel worse.
