What do you use to cover your LCD monitor from dust?

I have a 20" or 21" widescreen and really want to prevent dust from getting onto the screen and especially on the machinery of it through the rear "vents"; that would be hard to clean. By chance I happened to find a clear plastic bag that this cheap keyboard I bought at Fry's came in. It fits perfectly over the monitor. I'm thinking about using it as a dust cover when not using the monitor. But then I'm concerned about this static thing. I know there are covers designed to cover LCD monitors, and they all say something about them being anti-static. What do you guys use to cover your monitors? Store-bought LCD covers made for LCD screens or just plain plastic grocery bag kind?

I wouldn't worry about the inside as the monitor will get hot enough to burn off the dust.

I just use my eye glass cleaner to clean the screen and vacuum the vents out.

I figure if the cleaner is good enough for my plastic lenses...

I have a 20" wide screen and I don't cover it when not using it....and its fine. When it gets dusty I just wipe it off with a soft dry cloth....not sure if glasses cleaning solution is such a good idea....many LCD's have coatings on them that could be destroyed by cleaners.....most manufacturers recommend a "damp" (with water) soft cloth for wiping them off.

I just "Swiffer" the monitors periodically (more than one PC in the house)...and the plasmas too.

I don't believe there is that much dust around to really be a problem...and mine are usually on constantly.

However, I DO vacuum out the PC cases every six months...the fans assist with the cooling tasks, but don't help much with the dust bunnies residing in the cases!

I've never worried about dust getting into my LCD monitor. If I was, I'd probably do what I do with my stereo equipment (IE a passively cooled receiver). I buy a cheap, finely woven (but breathable) cloth of appropriate color and use it to keep dust from settling on the internals. I don't think you'd want to seal off the vents with a plastic bag. The vents are there for air flow.

Just my $0.02

FYI, all my computers have intake filters...They're amazing.

I let my work one get a healthy layer on it as an anti-glare coating. Since it is a relatively dusty environment the nerds that maintain our UNIX mainframe and built the PCs come out every 6 months and blow all of the dust out.

At home we Swiffer it every now and then. I'm not sure but I think you'd want to get an electronics specific cover due to the risk of static electricity (that a garbage bag might cause) but that may not hold true anymore. Just a thought.

Compressed air from my Air-Compressor.

I have 2 20" LCDs on my desk, and use a damp cloth to get the dust off the casing/screen, but blow it out with my air compressor every 6 months.

Dust doesn't really get on the screen like it does on the old tube style monitors with their static screens.

I just use a micro fiber cloth on mine every now and then when the wife notices

How do you clean it? Spit and your shirt sleeve?

PP, how do you keep the fleet clean?? The cab. didn't look too bad, but the sportline and the SL600 look to need the hose bad! Guess that'll happen if you're in Cali all week and the trees are bloomin.

Back to the thread, I use nothing to clean my monitor and I have no idea what the office cleaners use, if anything. They have standing orders to stay away from the desktops.
