Of course. The greater question for me is what response is appropriate for the sort of degradation that we are witnessing?

In the later stages of the Roman Empire, people thought it fine and dandy to gorge at banquets, and throw up so as to gorge some more. Also bringing in strong backed peasants to do the heavy lifting seemed like a good idea.

How'd that one turn out?

Good for people who didn't enjoy being the lowest rung of a slave-based economy.
