Oh yeah, used -- I just cannot justify buying a new car (thanks, Paul).

Mid-20's or lower.

Suggestions?

If you want power get the 250hp V6, 0-60 is like 6 seconds.

Its built like a typical Toyota.

Yep, no one thinks before they act. Or bothers to sit down with a calculator!

The same equation comes into play if your in the market for a larger used SUV. I've been semi-looking for a diesel Suburban (late 90's 6.5L unless I found a mint, lower mileage 3rd generation 6.2L one) for awhile now because I want a diesel Suburban for hauling the family around, towing my boat and future camping trailer. With the price dropping on the gassers I can find a signifantly newer gas one for less than the price of the more rare diesel. For occasional towing well under the truck's limits it's getting hard to justify the extra expense of the diesel even though I'd prefer it.

I'm not getting rid of my gassers....EVER! I like the solid sounding thud when I close the door.

The correct caluculator should be the OVERALL COST PER MILE.

A sober flinty eyed car buyer could make a very cogent case for buying a 15 year old Ford Crown Victoria and running it for cheaper than a brand new Chevy Aveo, for example using the above approach
I guess I'm doing okay with the big Buick, then. Insurance is the same as for my '97 C230; the previous owner took most of the depreciation hit; my note is actually lower than for the C230, and I'm paying it off as fast as I can. And after 9 months, the cost of repairs/maintenance (fluid changes, one tire, and a front brake job) has been more than reasonable.

I've got nothing on the horizon but a window-tinting (optional, of course) and feeding the big grey beast, and at that it does a solid 21-22 with 80% city driving, 31 on the highway. My monthly gas costs have gone from about $107 (last September) to $154, about a 45% increase, but my repair costs (for a younger car, remember) have dropped significantly.

If I could pay the Park Avenue off now, I'd be in clover.

Well . . . there are times when I miss the square-rigged fascia and huge tiller of the W126. I don't miss the creaks from the rear seat and doors as I drove over the lousy streets here. There are times I miss the W202 as well -- how easy it was to do my own oil changes, for example. But I don't miss the frequent maintenance/repair outlays, or the cost of premium gas. The W126 got only about 17-18 mpg during mostly city driving, as opposed to the 21-22 I get now (on regular gas) -- and the W202, despite its 4-cylinder engine, only did about 23.5.

Miss Linda says I fuss over this car much less than I did any of my Benzes. She's probably right.
