I can't help it if ya'll are not qualified to debate the issue. There are many gray zones in racism, and I'll bet you are as guilty as any one of us of committing slight, unintentional acts that could be perceived by some as racism on a regular basis. |

First off - I was commenting on you stirring things up and leaving.
Second – You’d loose that bet. |
Oh my god, now Mistress is going to have to revise her sig again . . .

This will be a lot more fun when somebody comes up with a computer peripheral that allows boxing on forums like this .

Boxing? Sorry - I’m not qualified to do that. |

Gee, you have nothing further to say on the issue, yet I lose the bet. Hope you stayed out of the ponies last week. You sound a bit frustrated, as if not used to being challenged. |
Here ya go- Dubya as a chimp

I think a similar analogy is graffiti. How do you think I would react if someone painted their initials on my garage door? Now imagine my reaction if they painted a Swastika. Do you think your reaction would be the same as mine? Keep in mind I lost a grand father in the camps and my mother, father 2 grandmothers, 1 grand father and a aunt are all survivors? Calling me a chimp or comparing me to a chimp is far different than comparing a black man to a chimp. As someone said earlier, I am sure we have all made comments that could be deemed racist by someone. I had a black cat and was looking for a name. I was talking to a black friend and I mentioned the name "spooks". Her eyes got big as saucers. She had to explain it to me. Suffice to say, the cats name was not "spooks". The difference was that I had no intent to be racist and she knew it. Sure it is possible that this guy is not racist but as WVO pointed out, I do not see a similarity in the hair line and ears. For the sake of argument though lets go with that belief. If I was told that referring to Obama as a chimp has racial over tones that I was not aware of the first thing I would do if I was not racist is apologize. Secondly I would remove the product. He did neither. He thought it was funny. At a minimum he is insensitive. I believe he is racist. The fact that we have a black man who will more than likely be our next president shows that we have come a remarkably long way in a few decades. The fact that there is stereotypical red neck selling a blatantly racist t-shirt shows that we still have a long way to go. |

When it comes to issues on racism, I guess I have a different mind set than some others may have. I’m a zero tolerance type. I never saw this shirt thing as political. Just as “Awful”, as the thread title states. I’m one to quickly realize that some folks are set in their ways as well, and not waste any more time or energy on it. I have no desire for any discussion regarding the other side of any coin regarding racism. In my mind, it is wrong on any level. There is no other side of the coin. And that’s it. I’m not saying this is the way everyone should think/feel/act/whatever. It’s just how I was raised to be. And I'm glad I was. If you’re wanting to get into some sort of character debate with me JD. Don’t waste my time. From what I’ve seen from you. I’m way out of your league. BTW - No discussion was needed for you to loose that bet. |

Seems like SOMEONE is always offended by something! I'm just glad that we live in a country that you are free to express your opinion and are protected by the 1rst Ammendment.
I may not like other peoples opinions all the time, but I will defend their right of speach. We don't live in China (government stops free speach) yet people, think about it... |
