The Don Siegelman story
Old article but the story is heating up. Dan Abrams has been on this story like stink on stinky.
http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1627427,00.html Said today that congress might actually go after him in spite of Bush's stonewalling. Rove said he never discussed the case with Bush, yet they're trying to claim executive privilege. Rove said at first that he'd testify if subpoenaed but now he and his lawyer are backing down. The whole thing sounds fishy. A bunch of states' AGs protested the bizarre nature of Siegelman's prosecution. Abrams video.

Since Siegelman had his day in court and was convicted of the crime so he should do the time. When you step on the stage of national or statewide elected office you should expect hardball politics to come with it. No matter what the motivation of the prosecution he was convicted in court based up a violation of the law.

That's not in dispute, aside from maybe a little. What is: there was a group from the left and right hauled in under the same sting. Allegations are that Siegelman came under much greater scrutiny throughout the process.
I forget exactly, but something like 30 states Attorney's General signed a petition saying that the matter looked more than a bit suspect to them -- this was a group from both sides of the aisle. Further, a life-long Repo is claiming that she heard inside dope about Rove spearheading the move to roast Siegelman on a spit owing to his being a demo in Alabama. It's the same crap: Rove and Repos politicizing the dept. of justice. A big no-no, or at least it should be.
