Grayson County Tx limits wind turbines

Grayson County has put a height limit of 54 feet on wind generator towers. This is several feet below the level of the trees in this area making windmill generation an impossibility for most homeowners unless they own many acres of cleared land.

Damn! I wonder what their reasoning is for this BS.

I found this in the local newspaper.

Gotta be George Bush's fault!

I can see not wanting the really big commercial towers sprouting up. ( I think the blade are around 90 feet long on those) but limiting the tower to under the tree line? Do they do that with Cell towers too?

Do you have exiting wind turbines in the area? You know the old many-bladed ones on metal towers? How tall are they?

Seems like this could be fought

Sounds like BS to me.

Speaking from an experience with a radio antenna and beacon tower:
Look into the actual wording. Does it say “…towers are limited to 54’…”?

If that’s the case. Mount the 54’tower on top of another structure.

France has the wind turbines and they looked a LOT bigger than anything I have seen in the states. Saw a fair number of slackers though that weren't turning at all, while the next ones were really churning. I'd hate to warranty repairs on one of those suckers.

"Dirty Jobs" had Mike doing the service on one on a wind farm in OK . . . where, yes, the wind comes sweeping down the plain . . .

In Denmark, a lot of people get into wind power by buying shares in turbines placed on the property of other share holders that have optimal conditions for it. The turbines get hooked into the grid and all the share holders get an appropriate discount on their electric bill.

Yeah it does.

I just got back from the AWEA (American Wind Energy Association) Conference in Houston. Simply amazing.

I think I'm gonna end up in the manufacturing / design market. I would much rather deal with engineering issues, than with people who outrightly do not like the look of these machines.

For reference...most turbines are sized in metric. Large utility scale machines have towers that are 50 / 60 meters.

.

Crap, I better go get my building permit for my tower before they
outlaw them in Collin County too.

Man, there seems to be quite the battle between big oil and renewable
energy here in Texas.

First the biodiesel ban by the TCEQ people, via some f'ed up testing.

Now a windmill tower height limit that is pure bull.

It's so nice living in the land of the Bush'ies
.

We will have to put up a cell tower that just happens to have a
windmill attached.

Have Fun !

Vertical axis turbines could be used on existing towers and wouldn't be obvious like the traditional style. Plus they don't require tracking.

We have many people here that are against this, that or the other because it blocks their view of the Capitol or it is considered unsightly. Nothing do do with Bush or anyone.

And you cannot move to some other country because?

Looking at the county's website

I've dug around the comissioners agenda and haven't been able to locate the regulations.

I could understand the rule within the city limits but, countywide is BS.

I have a 180 foot Rohn "SSV" self supporting tower laying on the ground at the ranch. I wonder what they will think of it when it goes up.

"What... thats no wind turbine. Thats one of them ther rotating antenna arrays."

OT, I just heard local dispatch saying an 18 wheeler has lost control, left the hwy and ran thru the Ford dealership. Sounds bad.

Just saw that on the 6 o'clock news. Swift 18 wheeler on it's side in the middle of a Ford lot. Boxes of laundry detergent scattered everywhere.

Hellooooo Forced Induction.......... Is that one of yours???

Edit: Took out 13 brand new pickups, pretty impressive...

But at least with Texas, they are already net energy producers. It's the net energy consumers that forbid wind turbines that I find perplexing.

Let them shiver in the dark, with a pristine horizon.
