looks like I'm getting a VW

To be exact, my wife is getting a 2005 VW New Beetle, 2.0L normally-aspirated engine, fruity yellow color, automatic. She got tired of putting gas in her Grand Cherokee and wanted a MINI...even '02's and '03's are in the midteens, and I just felt funny spending so much money, so I got her to look at VW's.

My experience with water cooled VW's has been spotty. My x wife had a 2000 Beetle Turbo that was mechanically sound but had electrical gremlins from day one. I had a 93 Cabriolet that was an electrical nightmare. My dad had a 91 Jetta that was a problem child.

She doesn't drive much, less than 10K miles a year, hopefully this will be a decent car.

I would never own a car that has had this done to it!

the automatics in vw's are not known for their longevity.if they hit 150,000 you are one of the lucky ones.

Well now,I don't know...There's a fella nearby who has a New Beetle with a TurboDiesel+5 speed manual.
He let me drive it.Nice, economical car with plenty of guts,if only he wanted to sell it I may have considered it.

If she doesn't drive more than 10K a year, how will the car pay for itself? Have you done the math and figured out how it will? I know that it will for us if we did it because we work 80 miles away from home and rack up about 300+ miles a day but at what she drives with the interest and payments, etc, etc, will the math still work out or is she just trying to avoid sticker shock at the pump at all costs?

2 years old? I'd hope so.

I give it less than 5 before you run into some problems. Atleast parts are CHEAP for my Vdub.

Could be. I'm considering selling it before then.

It's not really about saving gas, it's an excuse for her to get a shiny toy.

Get her the mini!

Gotta get the six speed though.

You can use it for autocrossing too!

When you said she was tired of pumping gas in the Jeep, I assumed that she was looking for better economy. My bad
