Childless by Choice

This couple would love Germany. I can remember how certain hotels and restaurants there didn't allow children under 14, it was always a surprise to be in a place like that and to see a dog walking in the front door LOL.

I gather most people have children so they have someone to take care of them when they get old

I don't have any, and have no plans for them. What you said is the standard argument for them, and I do understand it. And believe me, I heard it, often enough. Helps to find as close to the perfect woman, as possible, first, children or not - later.

That's the ideal as I personally see it.... 'o course there are the divorcees that come with a ready made family, also....

But it totally changes your life, they are not toys. And no guarantee they will outlive you or turn out well.

Want a guarantee? Buy a freakin' toaster....

Far better than what they do here in India, absolutely no etiquette at all, they drag their children everywhere including places where only adults should be allowed. Noisy and pesky, they make life miserable for all with exception of their parents. Germany and rest of north Europe is good that way but not Italy which is same as India.

One of the great things about being an Architect is that your buildings will outlive you. If you have done something to be proud of you can take pride in the fact that it might be around in five hundred years.

Of course the other side is that if you have done some that you are not particularly proud of the same is true.

With kids its the same only more so.

For me, having kids is the single most worthwhile imortant act I have done with my life.

Grand children are simply icing on the cake.

When my little grandson or grand daughter sees me and shouts "paw paw" and comes running for a hug my heart just melts.

I think people need to discuss it while finding the perfect mate. Imagine if I hooked up with a woman who wanted kids and I didn't or vice versa. Life can become hell after that. Problem is kids are NOT a car or house where if we get tired of them, we can easily trade it in for a new model or sell them, etc, etc.

I'd be leery of them and it is just me but there are way too many issues that come with that scenario.

That only has a 1 year warranty.

Don't they tear buildings down in Vegas after 20 years or so?

Some might debate whether American casinos deserve to be placed on the National Historic Registry.

Not if they're done by C. Thomas Walgamuth.

Its a safe thing to say since I haven't done a building within 2000 miles of Vegas (or so).

It is good to know that they survived the 1989 San Francisco earthquake, too.

Another true but (rightfully) obscure fact.

I think people should have kids when they REALLY want to be parents. Kids are not like puppies from the pound or stray cats and yet a lot of times pound puppies and stray cats are treated better and given more love than children. Kids are a lot of responsibility and hard work, but they are the greatest gift in the world when you give them the love and care they deserve.
Mine reminded me of why I wanted to be a dad in the first place this weekend. I've got the best kids in the world. I hope all the rest of you dads had a great Father's Day yesterday.
Choosing NOT to have kids is good, too, if you are not determined to devote the time and energy to raising them properly. Whatever you choose, you should fully commit yourself to doing.
