I sent this email to Frances Rice, Esquire.
Who is the chairman of the National Black Republican Association.

I gotta here how he/she explains this !

------

Subject:

Request for information about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Message body:

The topic of Dr. King being a Republican came up on a forum I am a member of.

We would be interested to see the evidence that lead you to the conclusion that Dr. King was Republican.

We are very interested in the information you used to make this decision.

Anything you could send us, or point us in the direction of , or just give us a link to would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

It wouldn't surprise me if MLK was a Republican. Back in his day, many Democrats from the southern states were racists, and proud of it. They promoted segregation and opposed the 1964 Civil Rights Act and many other civil rights efforts. Times have changed, though. Were he to come along today, I don't know whether he would be a Democrat, but it is safe to say he would not belong to today's GOP.

Right-wing propagandists like Ann Coulter like to point out that the Democrats were opposed to civil rights reforms back in the sixties, as if that is an indication of which party supports civil rights today. It's a bunch of crap, as is today's GOP.

What is it called when a person hates another group simply because of political party affiliation? What are some examples in history regarding these types of narrow minded individuals?

King did his doctoral dissertation on Paul Tillich, a German philosophical theologian who fled Nazi Germany for the US because he feared retaliation from the Nazis for his socialist views. Given King's affinity with Tillich, he was unlikely to be a Republican. He was accused repeatedly of being a communist.
Put it another way; he was killed in Memphis after traveling there to support a sanitation workers strike. When was the last time a Republican politician traveled to a city to support striking workers?
