My wife and I both work for a major credit card company as IT Project Managers. Virtual 90% of the time. Can't say too much... Highly sensitive company. :)

I'm the head geek for a large guvment agency, but I have enough sense to stay with IT and let qualified professionals (JohnHef) work on my cars.

25 years of nerd work, but I'd not do it again if starting over.

I develop custom applications and design software architecture for manufacturing companies. I simplify integration of our technology into existing ERP systems globally.

We roll out proprietary commerce platforms for real time trading platforms to the fortune 500 marketplace.

I bang my head on the desk...a lot...

I develop software for those handheld devices that the FedEx couriers carry with them on deliveries.

Worked in IT on a lot of neat projects over the years for a lot of different companies...Mobil, Sprint, SBC, State Farm...

another geek

I spent 5 years as a EE designing stuff for a government nuclear site and then coding the device drivers, moved into Project Mgt / Program Mgt for about 15 years with Digital Equipment. Went independent for a while and started a small consulting operation. Now I am director of QC for an electronic funds transfer company ( we do stuff similar to the FED moving $,$$$,$$$,$$$,$$$ between banks). Had our first $3T day this week.

On the car side I started playing wrench in high school, worked at an autoparts store and fixed their delivery trucks. A buddy and I painted and fixed cars to get through college in Buffalo. It really sucks to bust your knuckles rounding off another rusted bolt, then reach for a beer in an unheated garage and find out it was frozen. 8~( Graduated and got out of Dodge to head South.

I got bored with the American cars about 5 years ago and started playing diesel. Unfortunately not as much time as I want to play right now.... still waiting for time and $ to converge to fix the SD.

Virtual Linux on mainframes for the gov. Its a combination of old and new, sorta like like the iPod nano in my 380SE. :D

I got the title of head IT guy weather I like it or not. It all started off a few years ago with a few "Oh sure, I can fix that". Now I'm wiring and configuring networks. Setting up emails and printers, along with constantly debugging them. Now I'm managing multiple servers, debugging desktops, repairing and building computers. Oh, and the user names and passwords,,,, I have to remember everyone's for them. :o
The other day my dad called me up and asked me to install and configure software on the server. Now they got me editing html and building databases! Oh well, It's a learning experience I guess. I'm not a programmer or a code writer though... or should I say, yet. :D
