Does anybody here own shares of Allied Capital, the mezzanine finance company that operates like a REIT? If you do, are you buying, selling, or holding right now?

I bought all the shares I own at a little under what it's selling for tday, so I was thinking of adding to my position while the price is down.

Don't play in that sector. Did buy some more CAL today since it was on the bargain rack.

I'm mostly a long tern investor, so I can weather the ups and downs okay as long as there is an eventual upturn. That stock is in a portfolio I have of income producers and now seems like a good time to add to it.

Continental Airlines = CAL
I am not a day trader but I do buy some short term holdings and occasionally sell off some of my larger positions from time to time. One of my largest holdings OSK has sure taken a beating the last couple of weeks.
Pretty stong in energy stocks WTI BDCO XOM CVX. Sold off all trucking stocks as soon as they hit green in the 2nd Qtr. There is no capacity this fall and they are going to get whipped.

Oh my! You're brave. The only airline stock I own is Southwest. I think owning any others would keep me awake at night. I have some Sirius stock. That's enough stress for me.

I wasn't going to admit to owning SIRI

but since you did I will also. Owned 10 blocks for 4 years currently showing -65.26% Maybe, just maybe with the merge with XM this fall I might reduce my losses some.

Sirius is my Lotto ticket. I hope Mel Karmazen is the genius I give him credit for being. If anybody can figure out how to make that company profitable, it's him.

The Dow is down 20% from its high. We are in a bear market for sure, with individual sectors going in any unpredictable direction. If you need the cash, sell now while you have a profit. Otherwise do dollar cost averaging and hang on tight!

Ive owned ALD off and on the past 7 years. Sold it last around $30. Own none now.

Per MSN, Fy08 earnings are $1.41, 09 is $1.44; dividend is $2.60.

I see they declared 3rd and 4th Qtr div's already, keeping it at $.65; they've also diluted shareholders by ~12mil shares and are borrowing heavily to support that payout which is prob why the share price is being punished so badly.

Div is gonna get cut......sometime; or they will continue diluting shareholders and dumping assets to pay for it which will continue to drive price down.
