Laptop parts

I[ve got a Dell Latitude X200 and the hinges have failed. It's a known problem with this model and the screen won't stay up anymore. Anyone know a good source for parts? I've taken it apart once and was able to squeeze a little more life out of them but I don't want to bother to disassemble it again without a good replacement hinge. I'm cheap enough that if I can't find the hinges, I'll cobble together some kind of bracket to hold the screen up.

Contact Dell’s parts division. They will probably have them for nominal cost. Failing that make a visit to a local computer recycler. I’d guess that at least most of the Latitude models made around the same time span will have the same hinge

According to what I have read, Dell will only sell a complete replacement screen and not just the hinges.

Laptop, won't stay up anymore. Sounds almost pornographic.

Seriously, how old is this thing? Is it worth the fix? Does the company MTI spoke of have a date where they think it will come in?

Did you call them? Sometimes they only sell the assy but others they'll sell parts

After the comment by MTI, i did a google search for Dell Latitude X200 Hinge and they showed a number of responses.

Of interest is this one: http://www.vk2k.com/Dell-Loose-Hinge/

They state it is for an XPS300 but the hinges of both appear the same. In the article, they say you can hammer the hinge pin back in place and that will solve it. Otherwise there are probably a number of sources that will have the hinges

Here is one on ebay as a donor chassis. the screen works and it looks like the hinges are ok.

$30 bucks ain tooo bad

I alos did a simople searech under "dell hinges" and found a lot of stuff. ngo on the Dell Tech Forum and ask if the hinges on an X200 Latitude were used on any other models then do the seach and see what you get.

I did that repair but it didn't hold up. I also spent an hour on the phone with Dell to be told that they don't sell the hinges apart from the whole LCD screen.

Took a 2"x2" piece of 2x4 and cut out some slots to match the screen angle I wanted. It fits on the right had side out of my way. Problem solved. To hell with Dell.

That sucks. I’m kind of surprised as I've gotten a lot of odds and ends parts from them over the years. At some point, I guess, their management decides what is worth selling as parts and what is worth selling as an assembly. That decision process, unfortunately, makes them just like nearly every other company….

At least you found a simple solution!
