I remember last year when two men were having sex on the beach in Flanders, in the dunes actually. The French community in Belgium assumed the uptight Flemings would charge the men, but instead the charges were thrown out. I'd love to know what one is thinking when one has sex on the beach in the Emirates.

Agreed, but insane or not, for those similar charges in LA and some other states, she would be facing about the same amount of time--3 mos. to six years. She'll probably get released to the Brits to do community service there.

Is everyone overlooking the indecent exposure, public drunk and assault of a police officer charges? That's pretty standard stuff in most jurisdictions.

Lot of Brit expats in Dubai. Real chummy. Just wouldn't be surprised if she is quietly transferred to British custody in a month or so after the Imams get their rocks off.

I didn't know the max was 6 years. I'm not a great fan of public sex (except in airport restrooms), but I think 6 years is darned excessive for a no-harm crime.

I read it as three, possibly four separate charges, one being assault on a police officer.

Edit: definitely four, as reported. One year is usu. max on misdemeanors here, but with the assault thrown in for fun--who knows how they treat that.

No $hit. Unfortunately our country is as messed up as the ME when it comes to some of these so-called sex crimes. Don't even think about changing your clothes on a beach as you might have to register as a sex offender for the rest of your life. Sex on a beach is a little much, but I don't see how quickly swapping your trunks in the open could be a crime, but it is in the US.
