I use OtiRinse an ear cleansing/drying solution. I clean both ears once a week if they need it or not. My pooch gets a saltwater swim almost daily which does wonders for his coat and eliminates fleas but can be problematic for the ears. You do not need a prescription for it.

Thanks again for the ideas.

We're using a home-made concoction of acetic acid/salt water -- so far his itching and head shaking is less frequent. If it doesn't work out too well, we'll give an OTC product a shot.
