What is this thing?

Driving home from work today this nondescript car pulled up next to me at a stop sign. I take pride in being enough of a gear head to usually know right away which cars on the road exceed the performance of my E430, but this thing caught me by surprise. It started out with me just casually pulling away from the stop sign slightly quicker and ended with this thing completely blowing my doors off. Turns out the guy lives a couple streets over from me and I couldn't resist getting a closer look at the thing.

I'm guessing its some sort of Subaru from the hood scoop, but I'm really not sure. It's got no identifying marks other than the strange emblem on the grill.

I realize that the badge looks similar to that of a scion, but it's not the same. Believe me this is no scion.

It does closely resemble that Legacy, but with a custom grille and fog lamps.

It's a 2007 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT spec.B with a custom grill

According to the reading I've done, Subaru and Toyota are together now.

I think they are teaming up to build a lightweight RWD coupe, well under 3000 pounds with a flat-4 subaru engine. I wouldnt expect more than 140 hp or so. Should be awesome!

I hope the bean counters at Toyota don't get into it and turn it into another boring FWD scion.

This thing had one hell of a throaty exhaust. Judging by the headlights in the picture above I guess it has to be a Subaru. The thing sure caught me by surprise...

He probably has it fortified with WRX/STi parts for the sleeper effect...

I think that is correct and the grill badge confirms it.

Just another nondescript 4 door sedan. Call it whatever you want, it's boring to me. What ever happened to real styling?

Now you need to go buy an E55 and put some E430 badges on it...re match!

A blown E55 should put it back in its place...
