Two-thirds of Americans are overweight!

That's what ABC News says. Two-thirds of Americans are overweight and that figure is growing! They said soon it will be everyone.

I don't know if I believe that everyone will be overweight. Do you?

That 2/3 figure is old news.

I don't know. The other day when my wife and I were at the mall and I looked around at most of the people there, I have to admit that at least 65% of the people I saw were overweight. Not obese (100lbs overweight), but overweight.

Too much fast food I think.

i think (might be wrong) overweight is considered up to 20% of proper amount; obesity is more than 20%. (Meaning, you can be obese without being 100lbs over.)

but i know what you mean

It's a HUGE problem, no pun intended. The Canadian Medical Journal (CMA) recently had a focus on it and how the system is bracing for the eventual healthcare implications this 'obesity epidemic' will cause.

Scariest part are the young teens who probably can't even run 5K.

My daughter just graduated highschool, all four years physical education was not mandatory, so she didn't take it. Yes, she's pudgy. She WON'T EXCERCISE! She cries if you talk to her about her weight...

When I was in highschool P.E. was mandatory, all four years.

What happened? Kids today are fat and lazy!

Ha! 5k? people I know couldn't even make it 1.

Kids today are unfit in every sense compared to us and unfortunately they don't realize that it will have a severe bearing on the later part of their life with problematic health issues.

My sister is exactly like that. She's overweight probably by at least 30+ pounds. She always hated PE 'cause of her really bad flat feet.

Now she gets home from work and doesnt feel like exercising or anything. All it takes is a 30 minute walk people.

My mom asked her if there was anything she could do to help her, diet programs, anything and my sister just kind of tuned her out and stopped talking to her for a while

It's a sensitive subject yes but one that needs to be dealt with before you get heart disease at age 30!

She isn't terribly overweight but the no exercising is terrible for your heart, and it can only get worse.

Same here.....even I would probably have trouble with 5k....but I am not fat at all. 5' 11"....177lbs.......

I am way better at biking though.....I used to bike all the time, hundreds of miles per month.....I can still do a 30 mile nonstop ride at a good pace, so I am not too bad. :D

Some people do have a hard time losing weight though, I know people who can walk every day, eat healthy correct portions, and still stay a bit soft.

Most doctors will agree its way better to be 50lbs overweight and exercise + eat right every day than it is to be thin and do no physical exercise....and not eat right.

Maybe if people stopped obsessing with Mercedes forums and went outside to exercise?

(Not me, BTW)

I eat like crap (pizza, fast food, etc.) and have stayed at 125-130 for 20 years.

DslBnz 07-29-2008 11:54 PM

Gee, that's funny. I don't notice it that much around Southern NH.

I myself am a whopping 155 lbs and ~ 5'11. Large boned and muscular (my family says I look like a twig). But I remember in HS, I was 220 lbs 5'8 for years, and in the afternoons consumed one large bag of Dorito's and one large bag of Combo's cheese crackers, as afterschool "snacks"...Plus I could easily polish off a large stuffed-crust pizza at Pizza-Hut all by my lonesome.

Dang man. People say I'm like an athlete, now! I take in 100 + grams of protein with less than 1500 calories per day. Only problem is, I don't have the strength I used to. But nobody that I know of has my endurance.:D

People need to be calorie conscious 24-7. I just got tired of being fat!

I'm doing my part. More than my part.
