Car dealers are not the issue. Politicians are. You see, IF they are successful in the private sector and make big money, why would they want a govt position? Why would you want to take a pay cut and have all the hassles? A CEO is way more powerful in his company than a congressperson from the standpoint that they can do way more with less red tape. What can the govt do to induce them to work for it?

We didn't want Ross Perot when he ran. What we want is someone to tell us that with a little tweak here and a nudge there, life is good. We don't want anyone telling us how bad it is going to be. So, we get what we wanted.

Why do you think people like Cheney & Bush went from the oil business to government? To help out the oil business. Don't underestimate the power of government.

Prestige maybe? They were taking a pay cut by being in govt. Also, wasn't Bush the Gov of Texas before this?

That pay cut won't matter. They will now have so many opportunities to earn much more than they ever did before, that they will easily make up the difference in just a few years.

This is always what happens. Don't think for a moment that taking a pay cut means that they live more poorly.

I realize that but I think that it won't make sense for someone like say Bill Gates to do it. He'd lose so much money. That is why I think they do it for the prestige.

Someone like Bill Gates doesn't need the money. After the first billion you can pretty much quit counting(ya think?).
