I have moved on from the Percoset now. Yesterday I discovered when I had pain in the leg a few stretching exercises would make me good. So since then I have been using just extra strength Tylonal and Allieve. Today I walked further and faster than yesterday and was very comfortable.

Woo hooo!

A bit of warning regarding the use of Naproxen Sodium after a replacement surgery. It can slow the re-growth of bone tissue.

I found this out the hard way. I had three disks fused using implants. I am very much against using narcotics/opiates for pain relief so I used Naproxen Sodium for relief. During my 6 week check-up my doctor expressed concern regarding my slow healing. We discussed it and when he found out what I was using instead of the prescribed pain medication he forbade me to take the NP until further notice. 3 weeks later, my recuperation was back on track. The doc said nothing was wrong with NP for paint/joint relief but its very nature of inflammation reduction was exactly opposite of what was needed for bone regrowth.

AFTER you've recovered, it's fine but use sparingly DURING.

I've been taking one per day since I got off the blood thinner. I better look at my cheat sheet. Maybe I shouldn't be using any.

Thanks!

One a day is fine. I was taking four to six per day. Oops!:o

did not know about the bone growth part.It cause my heart to beat real hard, and caused dry brick stools.I took senokat for 3 years.I quit naraproxen, last year, and now take 3 ibuphropen 3 times a day.

The percoset was giving me turds that resembled chunks of crushed limestone in all but color and smell.;)

So yesterday I went all day without taking any percoset and not when I went to bed either. Woke up about 400 am and could not go back to sleep after trying my bed, the recliner, the couch lying down and sitting up. Finally about 445 I took 1/4 of a percoset and went to sleep sitting on the couch until 700 am. Dreamed I had a conversation with a very large water bug. It was not scarey but sure was odd.

Went to therapy today and have reached all goals for range of movement so am planning a final visit on the 13th to be discharged from any more therapy.

So all is good. Now will focus on getting my fitness and strength back.

I'm planning to get the left hip replaced mid January.;)

get some of the vegetable stool softener, they have a generic brand at dollar general. It is not habit forming. You don't want hemmeroids.I was in the hospital with a man that had that surgery. The nurse would come in and tell him to fart. He would scream everytime he did. I told myself them if I had that surgery,I'd have tem wrapped a empty toilet paper roll with wax paper. Then leave in my ass til it healed.

So Tom, at this stage, if you had it go do over again, would you still do it?

Oh absolutely. If not for my prosthetic joints I'd be hobbling around or in a wheelchair. My knee is pretty much pain free now after three weeks. I get phantom pains here and there when trying to sleep but can walk with luxurious comfort. Today I took three or four extra strength Tylenol only.

I am walking nearly pain free and yesterday I felt so good I jogged slowly across the street when the traffic made me feel rushed.

Like I said, mid January I'll be going in for a new left hip.;)

(Heck, I feel good enough now if it were the season I'd probably drive my race car!);)

10 days for my wife, had to pay 1600 up front, still have a class to go too.

Today I had to cut my walk short due to pain from the left(original equipment) hip. The new knee was fine.;)

Slept really well last night in my own bed with only an allieve and a tylonal before retiring.

So, really good.;)

Careful to not bang the knee since you are pretty well off the major pain killer.

So far so good!;)

I am sincerely glad that it worked for you Tom.

About ten years ago there was an MD at Church that I visited with a lot. Another person at Church had a knee replacement and he was worried about her doing so. In talking with him about it, his concern was the risk of secondary infection. I think his opinion was quite different than most Doctors. Although he never said straight out, I got the idea that he had lost a patient to a secondary infection after they had a knee replacement elsewhere. Again, I am glad yours went well.

I imagine a lot of folks needing joints have other issues which make infection more likely, such as diabetes or even alcoholism. Other than my joints I am very healthy. No prescriptions taken. Good blood pressure and good chlorestral etc.

Also we did it at a small surgical hospital so not as much chance of catching some disgusting anti biotic resistant bacteria. My daughter thought they had scheduled me in at the general hospital and said no way was I going to get it done there.;)
