It made me feel old when he said he bought the 733i. for $200
I saw someone with a 1984 BMW 733i. The car was pretty decent. I asked him what he had to pay for it, and he told me $200. It needed some love, but it could be brought back. Anyway, I was born in 84 and this car would have been right up there with the 380SEL etc, and to see that it sold for a meere $200 is just sad. I think it should have been worth a coulple of thousand at least as these were really great cars. It just feels weird to me that this car was brand new when I was born and was probably in some accountants garage/ parking spot, how did it ever become a $200 car. It should still be worth good money as people spend it on honda for some reason. end of rant.

My friend had to practically give away his nice, well kept 1991 750IL for $2,000. Now that's depreciation!

I was thinking the same thing as you when I bought my 1985 380SE a couple of years ago for $1000. I remember thinking that this was a $45,000 automobile in 1985, when I was starting 4th grade and not even my parents could come close to owning one back then! In 1985, my parents had a 1972 Lincoln Continental Town Car (back then, "Town Car" was a rare and optional luxury package, which it had) (moms car) and a 1969 Pontiac GTO (dads car and would be worth a fortune now) and they also had a 1967 Chevelle Malibu and inherited grandmas 1974 Pontiac Catalina as 3rd/4th cars and the cars were not all that old then and were like new. My aunt had a 1974 Mercedes 240D (was only 11 years old at the time) and I thought they were rich!
![]() I had a 1982 BMW 733i back in the late 1990s. I bought it from a car lot, owned by a friend of my uncles. I only paid $700 for it (and it needed lots of TLC), but I thought - "HEY, $700 for a 7-series BMW? WOW!" I drove it home - it ran good, but I soon discovered that the original 3.3L had been replaced with a 2.8L out of a 5-series. Then I discovered that it would not start when hot if a certain sensor was plugged up under the hood, but on the flip side, if it was unhooked, it would not start when it was cold. ![]() Other than that, it was still a powerful and nice driving car. I decided to sell it soon after that. I came out even though, as I sold it to a young couple for $700. That was in the late 1990s (around 1997-1998- MAYBE as late as 1999), so Lord only knows where the car is now.. probably junked out, smashed, etc. |
