Who makes a really good rechargeable battery ???

I have been trying to find some really good quality rechargeable batteries.

The kind for home use, sizes A, AA, C, D.

I have tried energizers, and two other small companies batteries.

But none have lasted very long.

Does anybody have any experience with a really good rechargeable battery manufacturer ??

Depends on what you want to use it for. I know of a girl that tried rechargeable batteries for her "toys". Well, for the regular ones with the contact switches that run directly to the motor, it was fine. For those more sophisticated ones with flashing lights and variable direction motors, it seemed to cause her to lose the control parts of the thing quite often. She was burning out the circuit boards. Switched back to the regular type and all was well again.

I have discovered that the Energizer rechargeables have a short lifespan as well...go figure...the "bunny" does well with the alkaline versions. :confused: The Energizer charging pod is crap too! Got to the point where it was almost too hot to the touch!

Oddly enough, I have Radio Shack batteries and charging pod, which keeps 4 pairs of batteries for two digital cameras at their peak. It's been two years and counting, and the batteries and charger are still doing fine. Don't seem to have the typical "memory" issues that plague some batteries that have decreased charged life as they age...

Chemistry matters more than brand. Make sure you are using NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride).

Has anyone had any issues with the rechargeable batteries as far as maybe voltage spikes? I know I took a bunch of toys from this girl and the motors were fine but the circuit boards were not working and so my speculation is the voltage spikes.

When I used to work for a firm that made Battery Belts and Packs for TV Cameras, Movie Cameras, Lights, etc (Anton Bauer) we had Sanyo manufacture our battery cells for us to our spec. I had quite a few conversations with the boffins at Sanyo and they told me many times that their internal QA and std specs exceeded our specs on a daily basis. They were the OEM maker for G.E., supplied NASA and the US NAvy Seal teams, even the German camera maker Arriflex Corp insisted on Sanyo cells in their on board battery packs.

I have had my Makita 9.6v screw gun for 17 years and one of the 2 battery sticks is original (1990 build date) and when it finally died I decided to autopsy it and guess what?

I don't know how a battery could make a spike. I think that is pretty much impossible for it to do that by itself. The boards could just be bad for whatever reason. The same reason boards in Mercedes die mysteriously. These weren't MB toys were they? That could explain it. Bad CAN module probably...

I've had good luck using the Duracell 30 minute recharge NiMH system, they will run our digital camera for ages (nearly ALL day!) on a single charge, we've been using them over a year so far and they last just as long. The charger itself is quiet and has a fan and is very well made.

Also the RayOVac rechargeable (15 minute) batteries themselves are good if charged in a different charger so they go slower, the 15 minute charger gets way too hot and probably shortens the lifespan of the batteries. I charge them in the Duracell charger and they work great.

Dunno but it seems to me that before she used the rechargeable ones, she was breaking the toys from the shaft part. With the rechargeable ones, it was circuit boards.

Panasonic........Varta are some good ones that I have tried for my lighs and cameras.
