Please Help With Computer Problem!
I need the SATA drivers for my laptop so I can slipstream it into an XP installation using nLite so I can install XP again. I have a big problem though: I downloaded the driver package from Gateway but I cannot extract the .INF file! The package contains an .exe that will put the .INF on a floppy disk but I don't have a floppy drive! How can I extract the .INF file? When I launch the .exe I get an error message!
I have a Gateway MX6214. |

I ran into a similar situation when I got a new laptop with no floppy drive. I wanted to install an ancient program. The program itself was on CD, however an add-on which personalizes it would only install from a floppy A drive. My solution was to borrow a USB floppy drive. Fry's had 'em for about $30 at the time, probably still do.

Go to the link below and download the uniextractor. It will let you extract your file from the .exe.

There are a couple of straight foreword ways to emulate an A: drive.
If you have a memory card of some type you may be able to set it as drive A: in Disk Management (under Computer management). Some of these can cards be made bootable. You could also use the subst command. This substitutes a directory for a drive name. With subst you’d make a directory, say c:\FakeADrive and by use of the subst command it would that appear as a:\ I don’t think you can make this kind of drive bootable. For details, open a command window and type subst /? |
