Have they ever counted? Nope. The Electoral College chooses the president, not the citizens.

The last two elections did not put the person elected by the people into office.

2000 went to the electoral-only winner but 2004 was the popular winner as well (51% to 48%).

The electoral vote is a round about popular vote, and the design of the electoral college was genius by the founders. As long as there is a huge population density difference across the country, the electoral college is needed. Without it, you would never see a candidate for national office in 80% of the states.

Ahh...........we don't see a candidate in 80% of the states..........today.

Nobody is coming to NY, CA, NJ, TX, GA, OK, AL, MS, OR, WA, MD, and probably a slew of others.

There are less than 10 states that swing the election..........every time.

Then see if you can look at the evidence without a biased eye.

Then come back and tell me you are 100% positive about the 2004 elections.

This is not a RED or BLUE issue.

Because of the electoral system, if you live in a state that historically votes in favor of a particular party, your vote for a candidate of the opposing party doesn't stand a chance!

So voting for Obama in the state of Texas for instance, is futile.

Is Obama really on the ballot in TX?

I thought there had been a number of Democrats from Texas elected president. I know`at least one was. Did they mke an exception for LBJ?

My vote surely won't count in West-By-God... Of course it never counted in NJ or NY either :D

LBJ was a "favorite son" so to speak. Obama will take Illinois as a result.

Way out here, in our curious little time zone . . . we leave up to you folks in the national race. :D

I think we can safely say that there is no point for an Obama supporter to take the time to vote in Texas, just as there is no reason to me to go vote for McCain her in California. but its the principle of the thing. everyone should vote, you never know the out come.

Theirs a good question. Is Hawaii so far from the mainland U.S that they have their own way of living? (That is does the federal government more or less leave you guys alone?)

I am very concerned about electronic, paperless machines. It reminds me of the old line attributed to "uncle Jo Stalin, I don't care who votes; I only care about who COUNTS the votes"--or something to that effect, albeit in Russian.
With no paper trail, I see the potential for great mischief.
If the people ever lose faith in the electoral process, then this experiment in a democratic republic is over.

No, unfortunately the feds are well aware of us. :D

We deal with the same regulatory departments as everyone else, including the EPA, DOT, and all the other fed acronyms.

There is the blessing that we are saved from all the national advertising for and against candidates.

It is annoying when the national news media is calling elections before our polls close. I think the system of mailing ballots, as in Oregon, should be looked into.
