In all fairness, your vote doesn't count no matter who you vote for or where you live.

What's the reasoning behind that?

Various news consortia recounted all of the ballots cast in Florida and no matter what rules they applied, Dubyuh won. I think there was one case in which Dubyuh would not have one which involved a selective recount, not full recount. What amuses me about the Florida controversy is that the ballots in question were designed by a Democrat Party operative, yet the problem was blamed on Repugs. Finally, does anybody think their own state is any better than Florida? When balloting comes down to a few thousand votes out of a hundred million, that is an error rate of around 0.01%. Not many people would be unhappy with that error rate in most aspects of their lives. |

And sometimes the majority doesn't always win. Such as in Gore 2000. Really makes one wonder where this country would be if the voting majority would have won the day.

Because not only do people individually have a voice in the election, but so do states as the major accumulated political powers outside of Washington. That is an aspect of "federalism", in which the separate states have power to balance that of the central government. The alternative is to dissolve states as an anachronism. That's fine with me just so long as all of my state's principles and laws are the ones that run your life and none of your state's laws infringe on my life. For the great benefits provided for us by the central government, we need look no farther than Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, the much lamented war in Iraq, and the current proposal to bail-out Wall Street in the biggest act of corporatist fascism since the Great Depression. Hallelujah, brothers and sisters! B |

That almost sounds like a line that could have been spoken at the campfire of Generals in the movie, " Gettysburg". One could argue that the entire concept of States' Rights, was rather convincingly decided by that conflict. I have not seen any further attempts at secession.

However, even the radical Republicans of the day recognized that absolute federal power, as exercised by by Lincoln, was a direct threat to the people, federalism, and the republic. That's why the passed posse comitatus laws. I hope someday that the Congress, President, Supreme Court and people of the United States discover the 10th Amendment. B |

There's no fallacy in my line of thinking. The purpose of voting is to let the majority win. The electoral college sometimes prevents that. That's why I think it's wrong.

I am guessing that a great great ancestor of Bush somehow got that stupid Electoral College into the Constitution just to get his distant descendant elected. Somehow, it just has to be Bush's fault.
