Mistel, somewhere on Elana's site she talks about family being 800 miles away and they were not sure it was far enough. 600 miles would have had me worried, depending on the wind.

From what I understand, they were downwind. The village is in western Ukaine near Romainia.

I am not an expert on what happened, but I know that initially most of the radiation was blown north over Bellarus. How long the wind blew that way, I have no idea. The wind doesn't always blow the same way. I do worry about it.

That reminds me of the first time I visited Ukraine in about 1998. The big digital clock on the train station would show the time, then the temperature, then some funny number. What is that, I asked? It's the radiation level, my wife tells me. Holy *****, I remember thinking!!!
